I like the idea of the thread.
I think there are legal complications involved though. (To put it mildly.) It might help if a list of charges were prepared first. It would be easier
to think clearly about punishments if the actual charges were sitting in front of me.
First of all, amnesty for those who turn state's evidence, and a hearty welcome to the side of the angels.
New York State, where most of the mayhem took place, doesn't have a death penalty, however, most of the big perps would probably be tried on charges
brought by congress for high crimes and misdemeanors.
I think it is important to keep in mind that many people already accused of these crimes have been put to death by the perpetrators. And
hundreds of thousands of completely innocent people, never accused of anything, except defending their countries from unlawful invasions, have also
lost their lives.
If punishment should fit the crime, "an eye for an eye" doesn't even come close to meeting the standard.
Maybe they all should be sent to Gitmo for the rest of their lives.
I've never seen a serious treatment, or laundry list of the charges that might be brought against the accused in this case. Many large corporations
might be liable for charges under the racketeering laws as well. Haliburton for example.
