LAPD Implies Owning Guns Is “Illegal”

A CBS News clip out of California that was prominently featured on the front page of Yahoo.com today showed the LAPD melting down 40,000lbs worth of “illegal weapons” to ‘”prevent them ending up on the streets in the hands of criminals” and yet most of the guns shown were perfectly legal and were handed in by law-abiding citizens who had kept them in their own homes.

The sheer gall of the propaganda on show here is staggering, because for anyone who doesn’t have a decent knowledge of firearms, the clip leaves the impression that guns are illegal and owned by criminals - despite the fact that the vast majority of the guns shown being melted down, many of them rifles and pistols, are perfectly legal.

InfoWars

Well I dunno what to think about this one. Infowars is a relatively safe place to get information from, but they sometimes sensationlize things to for their own means.

The anchor states, “Weapons that could have ended up in the hands of criminals are melted down,” implying that the LAPD is doing everyone a favor by destroying legal firearms owned by law-abiding citizens.

Ha, I love that one. The LAPD would love for weapons to be taken off the street so they could shoot every gang member on sight.

There's also the original news clip from CBS.

Interesting stuff, I guess the war on guns is still in full swing.

Thoughts?

Yup. Just more advancement of the anti-Second Amendment crowd. Quite a few big U.S. cities have laws severely limiting the citizens of those cities' Second Amendment rights. Washington D.C. up until recently was one of them, and Chicago still is. What's even worse is the current administration, Secretary of State, and Secretary of Homeland Security are actively working on severely limiting all Americans' Second Amendment rights with 'assault weapons' bans, not letting the DoD recycle their spent brass to reloaders, and other actions not in the open.

IMO the only relevant thought is that some deskjockey armoury officer, who probably even misspoke ore was quoted out of context, does not equal the opinion of the LAPD.

That article is some blatant spin. Nobody who owns a firearm is going to watch that video and go "Oh, my gun must be illegal. I better turn it in!"

I'm all about the Second Amendment, but if stupid people want to sell off their guns for a fraction of the value to some even more stupid people who want to melt them down, it's really none of my business. And really... think about it like this. If those guns were just going to be disposed of by the owners anyways, then there actually is a pretty good chance some of them would have ended up in the hands of criminals.

I'm half tempted to start a "free firearm removal service." I'll come pick up your firearm and make sure it's either destroyed, locked away safely, or taken to a reputable dealer...

Well can someone tell me if these guns were in fact automatic or equipped with silencers and if so did the owners have tax stamps?
