Yup...its about as 'local' a story as I can get...as the settlement this happened in is literally just over the hill from where I live.
As intimated I do believe there was spiritual influence at work there.
Heres the reason why:
The day after the death my cousin stopped in at our house on his way home. He lives in that settlement and knows that family.
He told me about the events in the house, that they were experiencing a 'makutu' (curse) and that the lady affected had died.
He then started to tell me they believed the makutu was related to a theft...at which point I said to him "A statue. Small stone statue. Of a
Lion?"
Cousin was like "Yeh. Did you hear?"
"Nope."
"Ahh. So you reckon its makutu? You reckon theres some funky wairua (spiritual) thing going on?"
"Well, I just told you it was a statue of a Lion without you telling me. What do you think?"
The thing is - which I told my cousin at the time and has since been confirmed through other sources and investigation - is that this event isn't
solely about a makutu/curse.
I *smelt* something a whole lot *darker* involved here also...and this 'makutu' was merely the 'springboard' if you will - the opening - that this
other darker element used to do its mischief.
Essentially what I was *feeling* at the time, and *evidence* of such has since been discovered (yet hasn't been publicised just yet - doubt it will)
was that there was some elements of 'darker magic' being played with here.
Why I mention that is that sometimes things aren't really as they might appear initially.
There are layers upon layers.
For whatever reason, what appears on the surface as 'A', may well in effect when you drill down a bit further actually be 'B' or 'C' merely
using 'A' as its cover - its distraction and deflection.
The issue with that is that some things may require specific approaches, specific interventions to deal with.
You also have to be able - truly able - to be able to perform (or however you choose to see it) that intervention.
Biting off more than one can chew can lead to a whole lot more than mere indigestion.
Take Weed-killers for instance...choosing the right Weed-killer that targets the specific Weed you wish to eradicate is often far more effective that
just going with some generalised broad spectrum Weed-killer.
Horses for courses. Cause and effect.
Just like Rule #1 with Hunting - identify your target.
You HAVE to be sure that your bullet is on target - aimed right and delivered right at the right target...or else you might find its a missed shot as
your real enemy slips away unscathed...or worse still, a ricochetted one that takes out an innocent...
Peace.
