There was a lot of debris. Not sure how much you would expect with a high speed nose down impact. I implore you to look into flight 1771.

While admit I haven't read the 1771 story, I believe the comparison was already made. While they seem similiar based on what info was provided here, the official story here seems an even bigger "leap of faith" then 1771.
