"Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content."
-Conan the Barbarian

Hi and great thread. I have 2 favorites.
"I love those who can smile in trouble, who can gather strength from distress, and grow brave by reflection. 'Tis the business of little minds to shrink, but they whose heart is firm, and whose conscience approves their conduct, will pursue their principles unto death."- Leonardo da Vinci

"Faith is taking the first step when, even when you don't see the whole staircase"-Martin Luther King Jr.

The world is like a ride at an amusement park. It goes up and down and round and round. It has thrills and chills and it's very brightly coloured and it's very loud and it's fun, for a while. Some people have been on the ride for a long time, and they begin to question: Is this real, or is this just a ride? And other people have remembered, and they come back to us, they say, "Hey - don't worry, don't be afraid, ever, because, this is just a ride ..." And we ... kill those people. Ha ha, "Shut him up. We have a lot invested in this ride. Shut him up. Look at my furrows of worry. Look at my big bank account and my family. This just has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill those good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok. Jesus murdered; Martin Luther King murdered; Malcolm X murdered; Gandhi murdered; John Lennon murdered; Reagan ... wounded. But it doesn't matter because: It's just a ride. And we can change it anytime we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings and money. A choice, right now, between fear and love.

The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love, instead, see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace. Thank you very much, you've been great.

Bill Hicks

"Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” the words of Peter the Apostle, speaking of the name of Jesus Christ, Acts 4:12

Time had to have had a beginning. If time went infinitely back into the past, then it would take an infinite amount of time to get to the point where we are now. Clearly that is impossible, because we are here now. Thus, there had to have been a beginning of time.

I absolutely love reading quotes. Here are some favorites.

In life we all have an unspeakable secret, an irreversible regret, an unreachable dream and an unforgettable love. ~Diego Marchi

After all is said and done, a lot more will have been said than done.

Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough. Good enough. Successful enough. Thin enough. Rich enough. Socially responsible enough. When you have self-respect, you have enough. ~Gail Sheehy

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves like locked rooms and like books that are written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will find them gradually, without noticing it, and live along some distant day into the answer.

And here is one I actually made up one day:

"Everyday you wake up.
Celebarate a new day of living.
A new day to hope.
A new day to dream.
A new day to wonder.
A new day to overcome.
A new day to learn.
A new day to question.
A new day to open your heart.
A new day to make a new start.
A new day for the possibilty of sorrow.
But most of all, a new day to hope for a new day tomorrow."

This quote is about chess, but because chess is much like life itself it is also sound "hidden" advice. The statement suggests that there are always options to the obvious problems and that money doesn't rule those people with a code. Most people will solve a problem by throwing money at it, or trying to get more money, or in association with money somehow. Money is great, but there is sometimes MORE wisdom that comes from not having it. Money rules the person who has it not the other way around. Here is my favorite quote:

“I'm not a materialistic person, in that, I don't suffer the lack or loss of money. The absence of worldly goods I don't look back on. For Chess is a way I can be as materialistic as I want without having to sell my soul” -(Jamie Walter Adams)
