Your post doesn't make any sense. You say H.P. is the best horror writer of all time and that he himself inspired your career but you ask why Lovecraft is so well liked now? Are you asking other people's opinions? You already have the answer to your question if he is what he is to you. Answer it yourself is what I'm saying.

Lots of people will believe anything if you present it to them as if it is already a widely accepted truth or authority. It's baked into that matter-of-fact / here-it-is style.

You could walk up to a long queue tomorrow and bellow the words, "everyone MOVE" and 80-percent of them would. It's the same universal law that created the first kings and high priests.
