For those of us who are technically challenged, we thank you for your efforts.

Thank you, I am right there with you on this! I was reading the OP - thinking.... ok -- am I really suppose to be understanding any of this?

I saw your post and it made me feel so much better.

Thanks ATS for the ongoing effort and job of making it a pleasant experience while surfing the site!

Oh question to Mr. S O - dang.... do you ever sleep or take a day off? I can be on early in the morning and late at night - and you are on - always working here.

I never reject cookies, nor have I ever deleted them (except for the purposes of code testing).

Wow, really? Do you periodically clear your browser cache?
Thanks for the reply! I'm not familier with code testing.(dang)
Thanks for keeping the cobwebs swept out and the threads productive btw!
I do look at the ads though...

I had gotten a few virus from this site. Although I couldn't pinpoint it to following a link from here or a pop up or something else on my computer...and was trying to rule out all other options before posting here or notifying anyone. Seeing this thread and the message I got today both confirmed and put my mind at ease. Thanks for being proactive on this and informing us! I for one appreciate it.

I'm sorry to say, I don't think it's over. I've very careful with what I download and what I view. But my main Alienware machine was recently infected so badly with malware that Windows will not even boot up now. I'm not saying that ATS is at fault... but I'm afraid I'm going to have to reformat my machine and lose thousands of files and days worth of work.

Donno if you'd call it malware, but I'm getting awful sick of the joshmadecash.com popup every time I go to sign in.

Awful damn sick of it.

when I am on ATS my keystrokes are off, just now when I typed the word 'off' only one 'f' appears, I have to go back and correct all the missing letters. This message required 12 corrections.

Only happens when I am on ATS.

If it happens again I'll try to take a screen shot, and maybe "view source" and save the text file, to extract urls, and send it your way.

So far, it has been a few weeks since I had the problem.

This reminds me of how our military, especially the Marines, do the things they have to do to keep this country safe.
Often times going above and beyond and doing the things that may go unnoticed while also getting criticized by the same folks they aim to protect.

So on that analogy I have to say thanks for making ATS a better place for all. even though there may be a few ungrateful souls that may say we are not yet safe from malware.
Heck, I'm sure there may even be a few others that would say there was never any threat of malware to begin with..

Thanks again.

I haven't had any issues Period!
I'm glad the issue seems to be under control.

Wow! This might be the cause of my recent malware problem.

First of all, let me be clear... I'm not blaming my problem on this site.

Having said that, I recently developed a very nasty malware problem of some sort, that is soon to be worked on by the crew at Hijack This!. I have no clue where it came from, but I didn't have it before first signing on with ATS and I don't visit sites that are famous for distributing malware. My computer is supposedly pretty well protected, but lately, when I sign in to ATS, I've been getting the same damned pop-up. My computer got to the point where it was talking a full minute to load even the simplest web page. One evening it took 70 seconds to load a page at ATS when normally it took about a billionth of a second.

After doing some maintenance and repair work (combined with some detective) work, and importing a copy of my registry (that I'd fortunately backed up at a time when my computer was running flawlessly), my computer is once again usable. But it's been damaged. Whatever it was that was using up all my computer's resources still resides on my hard drive.

To be honest, if I found out that I picked up a virus from some source on ATS, I'd be thoroughly pissed off, but I'd also be happy to at least have found out where I got it. Secondly, when the people at Hijack This identify what the malware is, I'd be happy to share the information with the owners of this site in hopes it helps ATS learn how to block it in the future, or help them pinpoint which advertisers might be the guilty party (if indeed it is advertisers). It takes days and days to get help from TrendMicro, but they are absolute sleuths at finding the exact agent of badness. I'll let you know what happens in the next few days.

Is there a reason you log out? Only non-members will see any pop-ups... and even then, at most, twice a day.

None that I have noticed in the past 11 months.

I'm 99.5% confident none of our current advertisers (after the cleanse mentioned in the opening post) are responsible for any malware issues.

Please feel free to contact me via U2U so we can examine the data you have.

That is ironic, as until recently (and maybe still, if i am blind) there was a button that allowed you to "Log Out and delete cookies".

I suppose I don't have to log out. I just log out when I don't think I'll be back for several hours, thinking it was a courtesy to ATS. I got that idea from a newsletter service where the owner asked me not to dwell on his site too long. I assume his server is probably just his home computer. What I do at his site is download his newsletter to my hard drive, then bail out (as per his request).

Yeah, that's it! It's the "Joshmakesmesick".com popup.

Having said that, I find your asking the question "why do you log out?", suspicious in itself. Does that imply that you suspect I will experience popups every time I log back in?

You said: "only non-members will see any popups". I'm a member, and I see them!

Let's keep the dialogue going. If I find out anything that might be useful to you, I'll certainly share it.

Meaning... if you're not logged in, our code has no idea you're a member.

There's no added stress to any web-server if you don't log-out when you're not viewing pages.
