Did anybody hear the strange rumble that was going across the sky just a few minutes ago? It was heading west from Indiana toward Illinois. If it was thunder, it was like none I have ever heard before.

I would say it lasted for over 5 minutes at a steady rate as it traveled toward an area occupied by someone I know about twenty five minutes away. After talking to them, they claimed it did the same thing as it passed over them.

Depends on where you are in the state... There are huge storms in the southern part of the state, and I've heard thunder from a LONG ways away before.

So, my guess is Thunder... But I didn't hear it obviously...

(After edit post)
Hmmmm... over 5 minutes huh? That's a long time! Maybe we can see if anyone else from the area heard it. I'll be keeping a lookout on this one! Thanks!

It could very well be thunder, I wouldn’t doubt it but I have never heard thunder last as long as this, what is the record?

Are you saying that you think it is odd for thunder to last that long as well?

Just a few questions to help people get an idea.

What was the weather conditions over the last few days?

Was there any effects on power that you noticed?

Any military bases near?
Keep an listen out for anyone else that heard it or noticed anything,

I am going to say five minutes total from the time I first heard it, till I could not hear it anymore, made the call and they could not hear it anymore. I immediately posted because they claimed it was odd. I figure this is the place to find out just how odd it was.

It has been raining on and off for a few days and that is what made me think immediately that it was thunder. It just seemed odd that the rate of noise did not change as it traveled off in the distance.

Oddly enough, last week I heard what could only be a rocket passing over. Now I'm in Iowa, and the sound moved from West to East. But it was loud enough to make the windows rattle. And as someone who has some experience with rocket engines and rocket launches, the sound was more that than an airplane.

It wasn't a plane, it was deep, rumbling and roaring. Things shook as the sound moved. I couldn't see anything in the sky though it was clear.

[Edited for grammar]

Well that’s what I was looking for, if it was just thunder, it should have faded by then. I will just leave it as that, unless someone says different.

Just looking out, you never know.

You think you heard there is a space base? would like to hear more if you have some info on it.

It has been raining off and on like brandon stated, thunder is a good possibility, it has been overcast here (cept very few sun rays poking through) since i can remember.

Just google "utah space base". There are some crazy links and some not so crazy. Some people think this is where they are doing most of the testing they used to do in area 51. Not alien stuff, I dont beleve that, just cutting edge military stuff.

By the way the sound you heard was God bowling. He just through the ball Matrix style so it took forever to get to the pins, but it looked real cool.

I'm in central ohio and I was out in the yard a couple of hours ago when I heard a long rumbling that wasn't thunder. I thought it was odd and looked around for the source. The skies are overcast so I couldn't see anything. I just shrugged and went back to what I was doing. I live near a small airport and am in the helicopter path to the hospital. Also the major airport in the city is to the east about 20 miles. So I'm used to hearing different types of sounds in the sky around here. I don't know what that rumbling was but it wasn't the first time I heard it.

This reminds me of the one time I was in Montreal and I went outside because it sounded like we were getting a storm. Turns out it was a beautiful night with no lightning or rain. We heard consistant [think thunder that doesn't end at all] for about an hour.
I started to panic a little thinking it was some kind of explosion.

Who knows, with always having an overcast sky wouldnt that be perfect cover for military or other various "groups" to fly around or be testing new rocket developments? Star and flagged due to no one knowing what it is

Last weekend I heard the exact same thing. A loud rumble, No clouds, no thunder, no rain, no jets or planes, just a light breeze. The rumble sound went on for about 3-4 minutes. It happened around 8:30pm. I am in florida.
