Obama Proposes $1.25 Billion Payoff to Black Farmers

President Barack Obama is proposing that the government provide $1.25 billion to settle discrimination claims by black farmers against the Agriculture Department.

The White House said the money would be included in the president's 2010 budget request to be unveiled Thursday.

Obama had taken criticism earlier this year from black farmers and lawmakers who said the federal government was neglecting the need for more money to fund claims under a decade-old class-action lawsuit against the government.

This is the same kinda thing that he did with ACORN.
He sued Citibank and made it give out bad loans.
Loans that everyone knew couldnt' be paid back.
Now he's giving out billions in our tax money to people who don't deserve it.
The case was closed. They didn't get in. That's their problem.

This was already settled in 1999. It cost $1 billion in handouts. But those black farmers that didn't jump on the bandwagon in time have been pushing to get money ... even though they didn't stake their claim on our tax money in time.

Were the original complainers right in that the gov't didnt' give them loans because of the color of their skin? Or was it a case of common sense .. of not giving out loans based upon who could pay them back and who couldn't?

Considering Obama's track record with ACORN and his lawsuits against Citibank demanding loans for people who everyone knew couldn't pay them back, I'm sure he doesn't care if it was a real complaint or not. AND THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN PAID A DECADE AGO.

The rules of a class action aren't, some sign up now, and then we'll do it again later for those who were too lazy or stupid to get free money!

They missed out on their chance for free money, why do they get a second round?

They were about to be given free money, and didn't sign up... who does that?!?

So weren't there any white farmers who didn't sign up in time? Or Asian or Hispanic or Latino? Why does this one specifically target black people? Ok the last question was rhetorical we all know why.

Good questions and good points ... all! My first reaction was that it's too late for these idiots to get their free money; it's been settled. My second reaction was that it's just the start of so-called 'reparations' in disguise.

Either way .. it sucks.

I honestly do not see how people can still like this man. He has thrown money that we don't have at every problem that has come up.

I'm curious to know just what types of crops are grown by these farmers that's worthy of this payoff.

I wouldn't be so sure. He'll have to keep his scam going for another 3.5 years, and it's already crumbling. Just wait 'till the dollar tanks. After that, people will be searching for, maybe even fabricating reasons to get him out of office. He'll be viewed as a worse president than Bush, and may even live up to that idea. Whether his intentions are good or not is irrelevant. He is, whether he knows it or not, is the "harbinger of death" and will "lead us all to our end"...

Good question. Obviously the gov't thought these people were not good loan risks for one reason or another. THE PEOPLE claim it was because of the color of their skin. But who knows ... it could have been anything from the way they managed their farms to the crop to their abilities ...

In any case, this was settled over a decade ago. These people got nothing. Now Obama comes along and hands them 1.25 BILLION .... even after the courts have decided that they don't have a case.

Who the hell does he think he is? (I could answer that!)

This is not a frivolous post. These farmers have no good claim except that 'they didn't know' there was money available.

My comments were to illustrate how absurd they are.

Looks like I found where he's getting a few extra billion dollars in order to give the black farmers the money that they really aren't entitled to.

Obama's budget eliminates new funding for advanced-generation equipment to detect nuclear weapons and radiological materials at U.S. borders and ports and around New York City. He also put a halt to the border fence with Mexico.

This latest fiasco is just another example of where his priorities lie. In no particular order, his goals are to pay back his cronies and backers, solidify his popularity with certain segments of the population, nationalize private industries, make nice with terrorists, spend like a drunken sailor, tear down conservatives while making them the enemy, and turn America into a socialist nation.

He doesn't give a damn about you and me. As long as he can appear cool with his 'date nights' and pizza parties.

this is a good thread and it should be discussed more but, as for me, if i can't say something civil or nice, i'd rather say nothing

If the intent of this thread is for everyone to rail on about President Obama and shout "Reperations" and "hidden black agenda" then carry on...

If anyone cares about facts or truth then they should research the issue.

This case has merits...so says both Republicans and Democrats. NOT an Obama agenda item. The case has been going on a long time.

It has recieved support from republicans and the bill was co-sponsored by Republican Senator Chuck Grassely of Iowa...but I suppose he is just a black man with a reperations agenda hiding inside the body of a white republican Senator?

The USDA systematically and consistently did everything possible to drive minorities out of the farming business. Sad and shocking to some people, but true all the same.

9 out of 10 claiments were denied, principally becuase they were required to get a white neighboring farmer/competitor to turn over personal financial records from years ago to validate the claim.

So since it's got supporters on both sides of the aisle we should be ok with even more handouts? When will it be ok to say enough is enough when it comes to handing out money we don't have. I don't care if the farmers were black, white, or rainbow colored with glitter sparkles, the country is broke. We don't have the money to pay our bills let alone to be handing out to whoever wants it, yet the government (yes that includes Obama) are handing it out left and right like it grows on trees. I for one have had enough with the spending and the handouts, I don't care who or what it's for. Enough is enough.
