I wouldn't really have a problem with America being a dominant power if the general level of intelligence and culture of the country wasn't such utter #. Honestly, I can't stand any form of American television, music, advertising, and even their very speech begins to grate on me after a while.

Its like some kind of revelry in idiocy and I cannot abide by it.

I typically don't like documents reworded by the mainstream media; there conclusions are almost always complete trash. edit - or those made up by people for the same reason.

Get the white paper here...:
www.defence.gov.au...

4.14 The United States will remain the most powerful and influential strategic actor over the period to 2030 - politically, economically and militarily. Its strategic primacy will assist in the maintenance of a stable global strategic environment. China, India, Russia, Japan and the European Union will exercise global influence in differing degrees and acquire varying levels of military strength to promote their interests.

The document essentially said that Australia should increase defense expendature in order to offset a growing north. In some ways some of the ideas seamed pie in the sky spending, but I not experienced enough to argue this (so I won't). Also don't make things up - it's not good on credibility.

WOW

You got all of that out of my questioning why the link does not match the post.

I'm impressed.

I read the original post you made - the one he was replying to - before you edited it. Thought about replying to it, but had things to do.

Can't remember all of it, but it started out: "That's good news. From an American"...

At the moment, it shows up in the google.jp search.

America had the chance to show the world a way of doing things, that time has now passed, and they are just another rogue nation, who care not what crimes they commit.

In the cold war between Russia and the US , the US only won because they

outspent Russia, Russia's GNP couldn't sustain the arms race

Now the US has maxed all its credit cards , it will be living in a trailer now

This is an important point which shouldnt be glossed over. One of the constants in the rise and fall of great powers over the last few hundred years has been the collapse of empires due to overspending on their military.

It happened most recently with the USSR. And its in the process of happening now with the USA. A combination of increased military spending and economic problems will see the influence of the US wane over this century and other powers rise and take its place. Given the influence that the US now projects, it will be difficult to substantially reduce military spending without significantly reducing the influence and military power of the US (by definition). Additionally the current economic problems are causing a massive spending spree by the government which will be a drag on the economy for decades to come, reducing the overall ability of the US to continue its current military expenditure.

It is almost an inevitability.

Nevertheless, I think that anyone who eagerly awaits the day the Chinese rule the world is going to learn the whole "careful what you wish for" lesson rather quickly if it ever actually happens. The world would be trading Ruby Ridge for Tienanmen Square.

...I wouldn't want to trade "globalization" for "sinonization" any time soon

At least Westerners believe in something greater than themselves...

China in charge would be materialism and consumerism... but with no
spiritual values...

No wonder they put industrial solvents in food stuffs...

I'd much prefer the Devil I know thanks.
You have no idea what the world would be like run by China, so you'd only be as right as I am when I say no thanks.
50/50 for both of us.

Don't forget that we have a Labor government here.
They want to also make Australia a REPUBLIC which is a really good idea with the now admitted possible instability in our region.

Australia voted NO for a Republic and Australia also prefer to align ourselves with America. We never will have anything in common with the China I'm afraid.

I'd rather die with an old friend than be ruled by tyranny.

I think you meant to say "believing" and "uninformed." Also, ignorant and uninformed mean the same thing, O great judge of other peoples' dumbness. If every American truly believed everything they were told, I doubt there would be an ATS. Last I checked, the Amigos were Americans. To be honest, everyone I know grew up questioning authority and will probably grow old looking for the answer. It seems that you are the one who is ignorant.

You know what really bothers me, even more than that? Being called dumb by somebody who's never met me, based on nationality. To pass judgment on an entire country of people without knowing them is ignorant. To judge other people as ignorant while displaying ignorance of the very people you are judging, that is hypocrisy. Further compounding the hypocrisy of your statement is the fact that your opinions are probably based entirely on your belief in what other people have told you.

But that's not the worst of your post. No, the worst is the astoundingly insulting hate speech. For you to blanket label the people of an entire country as dumb, based on nothing but nationality, that is nothing more than prejudice. There's simply no room for that type of thought in a civilized world. Go out and learn something instead of sitting in your armchair looking for somebody else to blame for all your shortcomings.

You, sir, should be ashamed of yourself. If America were anything like the preconceived version of it that you've created in your mind, you would surely fit right in here. So why the hate?

Good point. What are people going to do? Everybody will learn Chinese so they can watch their movies or listen to the latest pop song from Beijing?

I think China is an awesome country and the people are great they have a very amazing history and they have contributed much to human history that being said.

I'm amazed that everyone confuses that with the present country of China has everyone forgot that the Communist are realistically newcomers to the world stage and giving them credit for that is like giving the present day people of the UK credit for Stonehenge or the Present day Egyptian government credit for building the great pyramids.

I'm sorry the Chinese people and their culture

I think you missed my point.

I don't care what people say about the U.S. Government, I really don't. But when somebody comes around calling American people "dumb" just for being American then somebody needs to talk to them.

We don't all sit on our couches, getting fat and taking orders from our television. Most of us are smarter than that. I'm sick and tired of ignorant, judgmental people posting uninformed garbage to the contrary.

Thats a little bit harsh

I didn't mean ALL of them.. just a lot... and its hard to actually blame someone for their understandings when their country has been at war for over fifty years and the population has been subjected to propaganda for all of that time.

We get propaganda as well, we just have to leave our respective countries to gain perspective on it..

That's pathetic really.

There you sit in judgment of an entire country and feel that you are so superior.

Sad...

I mean those who judge are just as ignorant as those they judge for their ignorance.

We are a reflection of the very things we dislike.

Perfectly valid point.. I can understand your frustration..

For you to understand ours, just read through every other forum/blog/youtube vid etc etc (even this site) where Americans have run ins with other nationalities about a plethora of topics and read the garbage/insults/propaganda conditioned abusive nonsense they come out with... then look at the scale of it across the web.. when you look at it like that, you will understand why you are all tarred with the same brush...

We're don't all feel this way for no reason but its not a personal thing..

Well, if you picked it up that way, you picked it up that way..

I didn't mean it that way.. there's a lot of that going on in this thread.

What I said about the propaganda is true, you know it is.. maybe thats why you are so offended? disgusted? by it.

Where have I said anywhere that I dislike the US or its people? Iv spent quite a lot of time in your fine country and really enjoyed it... its your governments foreign policy I hate..

Does that make me a reflection of a foreign policy?

No not in the least I'm just embarrassed for you. Flying in the face of the present "Anti-American" craze.

It's one thing to dislike a Government and a totally different one saying that
"most" are one way or another. That in itself demonstrates ignorance.

Oh and by the way I also have read a lot of threads that just troll and bait with an Anti-American flavor so that goes both ways.
