American Stonehenge: Monumental Instructions for the Post-Apocalypse

www.wired.com

The strangest monument in America looms over a barren knoll in northeastern Georgia. Five massive slabs of polished granite rise out of the earth in a star pattern. The rocks are each 16 feet tall, with four of them weighing more than 20 tons apiece. Together they support a 25,000-pound capstone. Approaching the edifice, it's hard not to think immediately of England's Stonehenge or possibly the ominous monolith from 2001: A Space Odyssey. Built in 1980, these pale gray rocks are quietly awaiting the end of the world as we know it.

Called the Georgia Guidestones, the monument is a mystery—nobody knows exactly who commissioned it or why. The only clues to its origin are on a nearby plaque on the ground—which gives the dimensions and explains a series of intricate notches and holes that correspond to the movements of the sun and stars—and the "guides" themselves, directives carved into the rocks. These instructions appear in eight languages ranging from English to Swahili and reflect a peculiar New Age ideology. Some are vaguely eugenic (guide reproduction wisely—improving fitness and diversity); others prescribe standard-issue hippie mysticism (prize truth—beauty—love—seeking harmony with the infinite).

Well now this is easily one of the odder stories I've come across, especially considering the circumstances around it... a mysterious stranger and all of that.

As the photo and a later diagram show despite being composed of only six rocks it is quite complex.

Like the coral castle this was constructed (in this case commissioned) by a true character with multiple meanings in mind.

Wow! This I had never heard of. That's freaky and awesome at the same darn time.

Lots of things in this world we dont understand, old and new. Its quite humbling.

Hugs to all,
Dax

The article about it is quite extensive, 4 pages with a photo of the monument and a diagram of all its various features.

The things that interests is that it was all worked out ahead of time without computers (1979 is when Mr. Christian first appears)... the site was chosen after the design was started and it was done via detailed instructions via mail.

All most odd... and most interesting.

This has been discussed many times on ATS.

Here are a few examples, the first ones that appeared when doing an ATS search for "Georgia Guidestones"...

They are a riddle wrapped in an enigma, that's for certain.

I am not surprised that it has been discussed before... still from what I just read on the extra links provided (thank you kryties) the Wired article I cite is certainly the sanest.

That I did not know. Interesting, to say the least.

A couple weeks back I had a strange "daydream" about stonehenge during meditation. I am just learning how to meditate, so it was prolly more of a fantasy. Walking the rounds of SH.

This is not mysterious or odd. It only seems that way because no ones ever investigated it. I did I decided to look up the guy whos land the stones sit on. His son owns a quarry or whatever and he owns a granite crafting shop whatever you call it to tired to look it all up again. This was nothing short of a publicity stunt / one man telling the world what he believes in. As a matter of fact if anyone is near there I would be happy to tell you which book to pull out at the courthouse to confirm this. Its in the misc books. And dont ask the travel agency for the love of god they do not know. I used to do land title work so I understand it. This sits on private property, someone mows it etc etc... It was rumored to be on an easment by the travel agency which in my line of work is never right. Even if it was the easment is still owned by the land owner and can be used by the county if they deem it but have not. This could have all been solved ages ago had someone simply knew land title and went to the courthouse.

Found this on Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org...

A message consisting of a set of ten guidelines or principles is engraved on the Georgia Guidestones in eight different languages, one language on each face of the four large upright stones. Moving clockwise around the structure from due north, these languages are: English, Spanish, Swahili, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, and Russian. The message in English reads:

MAINTAIN HUMANITY UNDER 500,000,000
IN PERPETUAL BALANCE WITH NATURE

GUIDE REPRODUCTION WISELY —
IMPROVING FITNESS AND DIVERSITY

UNITE HUMANITY WITH A LIVING
NEW LANGUAGE

RULE PASSION — FAITH — TRADITION
AND ALL THINGS
WITH TEMPERED REASON

PROTECT PEOPLE AND NATIONS
WITH FAIR LAWS AND JUST COURTS

LET ALL NATIONS RULE INTERNALLY
RESOLVING EXTERNAL DISPUTES
IN A WORLD COURT

AVOID PETTY LAWS AND USELESS
OFFICIALS

BALANCE PERSONAL RIGHTS WITH
SOCIAL DUTIES.

PRIZE TRUTH — BEAUTY — LOVE —
SEEKING HARMONY WITH THE
INFINITE

BE NOT A CANCER ON THE EARTH —
LEAVE ROOM FOR NATURE —
LEAVE ROOM FOR NATURE

A shorter message appears on the four vertical surfaces of the capstone, again in a different language and script on each face. The explanatory tablet near the Guidestones identifies these languages as Babylonian Cuneiform (north), Classical Greek (east), Sanskrit (south), and Egyptian Hieroglyphs (west), and provides what is presumably an English translation: "Let these be guidestones to an age of reason."

Explanatory tablet

The text of the tablet is as follows:

At the center of each tablet edge is a small circle, each containing a letter representing the appropriate compass direction (N, S, E, W).

At the top center of the tablet is written:

The Georgia Guidestones Center cluster erected March 22, 1980

Immediately below this is the outline of a square, inside which is written:

Let these be guidestones to an Age of Reason

Around the edges of the square are written the names of four ancient languages, one per edge. Starting from the top and proceeding clockwise, they are:

Babylonian cuneiform
Classical Greek
Sanskrit
Egyptian hieroglyphics
On the left side of the tablet is the following column of text:

Astronomic Features
1. channel through stone
indicates celestial pole.
2. horizontal slot indicates
annual travel of sun.
3. sunbeam through capstone
marks noontime throughout
the year

Author: R.C. Christian
(a pseudonyn) [sic]

Sponsors: A small group
of Americans who seek
the Age of Reason

Time Capsule
Placed six feet below this spot
On
To Be Opened on

The words appear as shown under the time capsule heading; no dates are engraved.

Intresting.

Based on the message, and the time it was erected, I would guess that this was some aquarian group of some sort.

Just my two cents.

Anyone live near there and want to take me up on my offer? Im not trying to spoil anyones fun I just know this isnt a huge conspiracy. When I starting digging into this it was absolutely apparent this was no conspiracy. People keep saying christian had these erected etc etc...

Well christian would have had to buy land, pay for the stones, then pay someone to mow the lot for the rest of eternity and pay the taxes up for eternity. The county would not allow this to stand on its property or to be built on its property.

These stones sit on the land of an ex stone worker whos son owns a granite stone quarry. Its quite obvious where it came from and who owns it. Not being in land title research I can see how people would not ever figure this out but its quite obvious to me.

You could try to tie the guy into some conpiracy but hes really not that well off. Hes not tied into any major companies or anything. I think this was publicity for his and his sons business. And that as they say is the rest of the story.
