There are questions as to why Mexico deaths and not here. As I've stated earlier it may be just a matter of time. And just think about how many people are in contact with each other on a plane at close quarters. so far, they are only watching people that came from Mexico, what about the people whom sat next to someone from there after they changed flights. that I believe is where we will loose the connection. This is going to be huge. Also I knew Yellowstone was a big deal and not a hoax, I was making light of it

You might want to calm down a bit, its not an air born pathogen. Its transmitted like the flu (aka bodily fluids like coughing, whipping your nose then touching something else). So unless someone on the flight was already showing sign your probably the other passengers are probably fine.

I found this link in one of the 50 threads on this:

biosurveillance.typepad.com...

It looks like the CDC knew about this already in Texas and California since April 20th!

Most suspected flu patients in Mexico now healthy
Calderon said more than 900 people had been declared healthy and nearly 400 others with flu-like symptoms were in hospitals being checked.

Two thirds were declared healthy. How will the remaining third fare?

A few updates:

Mexico, Escobedo: First suspected swine influenza case identified in Nuevo León State. Recent travel to Mexico City.

US: National Pork Producers Council recommends all pigs and pig handlers be vaccinated against seasonal influenza virus.

That's useless IMO.

Russian authorities ban all shipments of meat products coming from swine influenza affected states in the U.S.

Affected states? Because no way someone could have been infected in X state and been discovered sick in Y state?

Columbia: Total number of suspected swine influenza cases being investigated reaches 12; three in Cartagena de Indias.

Canada, British Columbia: Two cases of swine influenza confirmed in individuals who recently visited Mexico.

Mexico: Total of fatal, suspected swine influenza cases nationwide reaches 86.

Mexico City: Mayor announces five new suspected fatal swine influenza cases in past 24 hours.

So the source of the flu: Mexico City, the biggest city in the world. Probably manufactured in a lab.

Seriously, unless there's a BIG cover up in the number of deaths, this will blow over in probably 2 weeks at most.

People can spread the disease days before showing any kind of symptoms. All it takes is an infected person touching something and then someone else touching it or breathing in someone's sneeze or cough. The flu can also enter through the eyes.

In essence by the time you realize you have it... you may have already infected hundreds of others.. :/ but anyways I guess the reason they are worried right now in the United States is not because it is killing people, because it obviously isn't right now but because the more it mingles with our human DNA the better chance it has to become more deadly and then tamiflu and other antibiotics don't work. Either way...interesting couple of weeks ahead.

Yes, this situation could get very ugly very quick. Or it could just dissapate like SARS did a few years ago. Just shake up the population for a few weeks and get them scared again.

Mind you this is a bit more serious that SARS as we don't know the extent of the mutation, and knowning little about a virus it's most valuable weapon.

It could mutate to where Tamiflu and other anti-viral drugs would actually help it mutate into something far more sinister.

Lets not forget folks, it only takes ONE single person to make a new strain that would be immune to all forms of medications. One single person.

Exactly what I am afraid of.. Right now people are getting ill but just one mutation is all it would take and not only do we have no immunities to it but also nothing to fight it... If that happens.. Society will start to break down into everyone for themselves.

I just checked and its partly true, that you can pass on influenza about 1-2 days before you start seeing symptoms (with an incubation period of up to 5 days). I'm a big enough man to admit when I'm wrong
Its still no reason to panic though, just treat it as an extended flu season until told otherwise (at least not yet).

A plane is the best place to spread a viral infections, people in close proximity in a closed environment. They could have easily contracted the virus without showing immediate symptoms upon arriving in the airport. They could pass through the immigration and spread the virus among the populous. I can see this spreading

Ill give it 3 days to see where this goes. If in 3 days it's still spreading and if it is killing people then we have reason to worry. That is the immediate concern, the other is for what happens next winter/flu season.

Could it be that it starts out the way we have it in the US now...mild....and then mutates into something more deadly???

Could this be why we didn't hear about this 3 weeks ago when it first started in Mexico. I would be interested in finding out when the first death from this so called "Swine Flu" occurred.
