Its widely agreed, in the belief of intention, that focusing on the negative counters the positive.

And yet, every one ignores the post that brings some rationality to all this sensationalist doomageddon.

Yes, it is a contradiction. But, I did interject a positive tone by writing that I felt the FBI was still on the people's side for the most part.

The people that work for the FBI, are kinda like "just plain folks".

You wanna get freaked about needless carnage,just look at how many more people just get killed in non alcohol related car crashes,like the drunk guys really do that much damage....driving drunk is a no no,but it doesn't waste 5 people a day during rush hour like you hear about here in florihell....morning and evening...REALLY.

You worry about overpopulation,but say not vaccinating your children is a no no ?..........?.

Checks and balances anyone?.

Worry about something important,no matter what ya do ya is gonna die!!.

And I ain't talking about arranging for your funeral.

Maybe if you weren't so worried about dying,you could actually think more clearly.

I always hated getting the flu,and death is the only great "unknown",or is it the last adventure?.

So I will take measures and try to stay "viable".

It may be true,it may be propaganda,it may be an excuse to distract you from something like the monetary problems here.

I spend too much time on my computer cuz I'm layed off from work.

hardly reassuring. you can be an asymptomatic carrier of the flu

for a few days until you get fever, chills, myalgias, etc.

therefore, the fact this is already "not containable" per the CDC, and

has an apparent epicenter in ONE OF THE MOST POPULATED CITIES ON THE PLANET

(Mexico City), means someone has gotten on a plane today with the virus

to Aussie-land via SD/LA etc, or Europe/US/Africa (anywhere).

The next 2 weeks will be very , very interesting. We will certainly know more

early next....good news is tamiflu works (for now) but not amantidine.

After reading about this flu, it is either agrowing major story or some sort of Psy Ops operation.

Im kind of thinking that "they" might have released a virus to get the population that worried about it as to get mandatory vacinations....but the vacinations would have the "real" virus in them and the population would be willing participants, and help carry the big virus around the world.....

maybe Im just carried away, but it wouldnt be the first time vaccines have been laced with an active virus.

This reminds me of my all time favorite book. The Stand, by Stephen King. A wild virus gets out of a lab in the desert. One soldier notices and is able to get out before the place locks down. He infects everyone and so it begins.

This seems right out of a horror book to me. I'm scared s---less right about right now.

Yep, one of my all time fav books...I read it years ago and to this day always think of it with every "disaster scenario' that gets talked about and tossed around. That book really affected me!

Our local News down here in Albuquerque reported the number of of Americans with this is up to 8 now... all the cases reported in the US are coming out of Calif and Texas,,,so far...
there in Mexico they have closed public buildings and schools in an attempt to keep from spreading it

Well if they are using a vaccine, I hope it was not this year's Influenza vaccine used this prior season in the US. It was, at best, 50% effective. The Infuenza A virus that was in the vaccine was majorly ineffective due to mutation/bad guessing (for a US Flu Vaccine that will be used in November 2009 is being developed now).
This Influenza H1N1 has a unique mix of Avian, Swine and Human fragments that vary from location (Europe, America... check this link - www.alertnet.org...).
Here is a great quote from the article "The virus is an influenza A virus, carrying the designation H1N1. It contains DNA from avian, swine and human viruses, including elements from European and Asian swine viruses, the CDC has said."
They also claim antivirals work...Tamiflu is effective, but should be 2nd line - Rimantadine is cheaper and hopefully just as effective...that data will not be available for a while...still too soon.

On that same news report I talked about they admited there is no vaccine and even if they put everyone on making one right now it will take 8 months to get the first batch out

Sorry about the double link post my friend...There are numerous, numerous articles being posted online...alot of them I really don't trust (Reuters is solid for me personally)...I wonder how much/many of the reports are completely bogus.
Time for me to sit back with my scotch (J. Walker) and club soda, a decent Dominican Cigar (Cinco Vegas) and watch this unfold this weekend.

The Health Department's Dr. Don Weiss said Friday that a team of agency doctors and investigators were dispatched to the private St. Francis Preparatory School the previous day after students reported fever, sore throat, cough, aches and pains. No one has been hospitalized. The handful of sick students who remained at the school were tested for a variety of flu strains. If they're found to have a known human strain that would rule out swine flu. Results could take several days. In the meantime, the school says it's postponing an evening event and sanitizing the building over the weekend.

Dude, Just read that of Drudge...I grew up on Long Island (Nassau County) a few miles from the Queen/Nassau border. I wonder which of the many High Schools this one is. This is my freak out limit...can't wait to stay in NYC for 5 days next week and go to the new Yankee Stadium...Time to get some N95 masks.

If...and just IF this is the same Influenza, that would mean the most likely cause of spread was air travel. If it is in NYC, it could be in any major airline hub city and spread locally from there....Or this could be CBS Channel 2 news just looking for a panic story (they did it a few years ago with Shark Bites - there was one off the coast of Florida and the tag line on the story was "Is there a Shark Bite threat at local beaches? Tune in at 11....)

I have been watching for this outbreak for at least a year. Here is a quote from 2006:

All of this is a plot by the NWO to create a one world gov't. Only the United states is standing in their way.

CBS Evening News mentioned tonight that there were two medications that were 'effective' on this new flu. I don't remember what the first one was as I was too busy choking when they gave the name of the second, which was tamiflu. This is the same tamiflu of which rumsfeld holds a LOT of stock.

I just found a pretty accurate death toll for Mexico.

This is not a case in which something stinks, it is just the nature evolution of a virus. It is also nothing to be scared of, if you are prepared. I know in South Australia our health department is very well advanced in planning for an occurrence of a pandemic. I know as i am one of the infrastructure engineer with the department and we do annual exercises to practice keeping things going if our team is isolated in different places, such as homes and individual data centres etc.

At my house I have three large storage containers with canned and dehydrated provisions, batteries, torches and a battery operated radio. I have enough to last for several weeks, the only thing we lack is water, so will be relying on the mains supply. We also have face masks just in case we need to go into public. If a pandemic hits my family will be staying at home, we will not have physical contact with the outside world. Hopefully we never have to activate our family plan but being prepared never hurts.

From the workshops I have done I would recommended having a mobile phone handy. The first services to be cut to the ordinary joe citizen will be publicly switched phone network (PSPN) (to reserve communications to essential services), but it has to be noted that the first services to be turned off will be the mobile network as telcos have a higher level SLA around PSPN.

Any pandemic will come in waves, with each wave lasting about 4- 6 weeks and waves spread over a series of months. So remember to restock. If a pandemic does hit personal hygie is important, as the articles already posted states don't shake hands, kiss anyone who has no contact with your isolation group, wash hands all the comment sense stuff. Viruses can last hours (about 12) on surfaces after someone sneezes, but only a few hours on someone hands.

Play it safe, get prepared and everyone will be ok. If all of the community is prepared any pandemic will be short lived.
