PARIS, April 21
(Reuters) - Workers from a tyre factory in France trashed two buildings on Tuesday after learning that an attempt to block the planned closure of their plant in court had failed. German car parts maker Continental, which operates the plant at Clairoix in northern France, announced on March 11 it would close the site as well as a German plant at Hanover because of a severe auto industry crisis.

AP Sources:GM to shut many US plants up to 9 weeks
DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Corp. is planning to temporarily close most of its U.S. factories for up to nine weeks this summer because of slumping sales and growing inventories of unsold vehicles, three people briefed on the plan said Wednesday.
The exact dates of the closures are not known, but the people said they will occur around the normal two-week shutdown in July when changes are made from one model year to the next. None of the people wanted to be identified because workers have not yet been told of the shutdowns.

That's not that bad... seriously. The unemployment is only breaking records in 7 of the 51 states... and a lot of them are way lower than past records... but of course we ain't see nothing yet. The worst is still ahead.

and we still have a couple of hours to go.
I added the 26,000 - not to sensationalize - but because - for at least 2 months
there will be this many more people out of work - and collecting benefits.
Let's hope for new and better technology -
that these folks can go back to work doing.
