So this was what the sky looked like last Thursday above Dallas/Fort Worth ...

The arc is produced by plate oriented crystals and is a close relation to the circumzenithal arc. Light rays enter the almost vertical crystal side faces and leave via the lower horizontal face (ray path 3-1). The refraction of the almost parallel sun's rays through faces inclined at 90° produces pure, bright and well separated prismatic colours ~ purer than those of the rainbow. The colours are at their best when the crystal tilts are smallest. Large crystal tilts produce more pastel hues.

Those are amazing picutes...


I never saw this before...exept in China right before the big 7.8 magintute quake hit in 2008.

Better strap down those waterboilers and find a save place to hide 'cause the big one is coming!!!!!!.........


On the other hand it could very well be just circumhorizontal arc.....

No earthquakes in Dallas the last couple of days so we can safely conclude these are Circumhorizon Arcs.

Yeah i didn't think anything was gonna come from this but the funny thing is when i went outside yesterday i got a couple of shots of our view of the sun here in Holland...
