Rep. Jane Harman , the California Democrat with a longtime involvement in intelligence issues, was overheard on an NSA wiretap telling a suspected Israeli agent that she would lobby the Justice Department to reduce espionage-related charges against two officials of the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, the most powerful pro-Israel organization in Washington.

Harman was recorded saying she would “waddle into” the AIPAC case “if you think it’ll make a difference,” according to two former senior national security officials familiar with the NSA transcript.

In exchange for Harman’s help, the sources said, the suspected Israeli agent pledged to help lobby Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., then-House minority leader, to appoint Harman chair of the Intelligence Committee after the 2006 elections, which the Democrats were heavily favored to win.

Seemingly wary of what she had just agreed to, according to an official who read the NSA transcript, Harman hung up after saying, “This conversation doesn’t exist.”

Holy cow this is the motherload right here. This is something you will NOT see on ANY station. This is being under reported and the reason is quite obvious.

That's not even the most significant part. Back in October, 2006, Time reported that the DOJ and FBI were investigating whether Harman and AIPAC "violated the law in a scheme to get Harman reappointed as the top Democrat on the House intelligence committee" and "the probe also involves whether, in exchange for the help from AIPAC, Harman agreed to help try to persuade the Administration to go lighter on the AIPAC officials caught up in the ongoing investigation." So that part has been known since 2006.

I mean this has been an argument lamented here on ATS for awhile and it has been heated on BOTH sides one side feeling that crazy conspiracies like this is just Anti Antisemitism. Well folks there is no conspiracy the facts are coming out.I think its time to address our relationship with Israel. I also want to add that this is also further proof of our two party crime family. In Washington there is an internal battle going on between true patriots and the sell outs. Republicans and Democrats are not the labels it is straight up good and evil that is going at it in Washington. There are good and bad in BOTH parties and Im curious to see if this hits the MSM at all. SO far it has not which is exactly how the powers want it. This story is really the motherload.

Israel owns the US, and if that is taking it too far Israel has a big big hand in the US, look at the history of how and why it was "made" The Rothschilds for one.

Im surprised NO ONE on both sides are commenting. This story is huge in my opinion. It starts giving facts on issues we debate here on ATS all the time when it comes to Israel and its control on our government.

It's too bad you have to rely on Salon and Glenn Greenwald as your sole support, but facts are facts.

I wouldn't be looking for major MSM coverage yet, until denial or obliviousness are impossible.

Is Israel such an important Middle East ally that we can afford to look the other way at blatant violations of our national security?

Can we hurry up and groom a successor in the Iraqi govt. I'll bet if we still had a friend like Shah Reza Pahlavi, we wouldn't be so beholden to two-faced middle east and Northern Africa "partners."

So this is what we are left with? Belittled by our outright enemies and cheated by friends?

What many people neglect to realize is that a very big portion of the support Israel receives from the US is not because of the Israelis but rather because of the Evangelical doomsaying, rapture wanting, apocalypse dreaming, christian right.

Hmm considering your obvious pro Israel stance on other posts of yours Id assume that you'd love to see the "left wing moonbat" strung up if she wasnt such a supporter of Israel.

As far as the story and its "unnamed sources" it seems that most big stories start out that way till all the facts come clear. This is a big story and we have seen what has happened to ANYONE who questions our relations with Israel they get lampooned in the media and on the internet. Ask Charles W. It’s no secret that the Israeli Lobbies virtually run the nation. Rham Emanuel, White House Chief of Staff? The former head of Homeland Security a dual American and Israeli citizen?

The situation was obvious back in 1991 when George H. W. Bush refused billions of dollars in loan guarantees to build Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank and the Israeli Lobbyists acted so aggressively and shamefully the Israeli Prime Minister had to make a public statement distancing him self from them and asking them to back off.

They did but oddly enough George H.W. Bush had the highest approval rating of any American President ever sitting when he vetoed the Loan Guarantees and 9 months later couldn’t even win reelection.

Israel is the bane of this nation and we should be calling for attacking it and not Iran.

Nice find I also posted Fox's version of the story also although they left out Gonzales name and was sure to push the fact she is a Democrat...you know the whole divide and conquer thing. Im glad its getting some attention and this lady needs to resign immediately.

Israel is a horrible country that will lead the US to further war with the Islamic middle east.

It's not a coincidence that two of the 9/11 hijackers were living openly and even applied for and received drivers license, bank accounts, and credit cards while in San Diego CA even though various intelligence organizations, like the CIA and Operation Able Danger, were concerned about them and had identified them as Al Queida. All the while being Saudi citizens.

They were even living with an FBI informant.
