Men are needed for DNA tests to prove their distant ancestors moved from the Mediterranean to north west Wales as migrant workers 4,000 years ago.

Participants will be asked for a cheek swab sample for genetic analysis.

Researchers at the University of Sheffield hope to link the migration of men in the Bronze Age to the discovery of copper.

The metal was found at both Parys Mountain on Anglesey, and on the Great Orme at Llandudno, Conwy.

Are the powers that be getting so desprate for peoples DNA that they need to resort to storys like these?
The country is in enough trouble and debt without spending a stupid amount of money doing so called "research" like this!

Um...

No, if they really wanted to get DNA samples, they would. And they wouldn't focus on a minute tiny population to get it.

They would say, we need to know where all white people are from. Not a little specific group.

This is just arechology work to find migrant patterns, that is all.

Men for the current project need to be born in the area, and come from the same area as their paternal grandfather (their father's father).

I am sorry, but that is really specific information they are looking for.

Though I do appreciate you keeping your eyes open to such matters.

There is defo more to it and if my theory is right come the middle of may i will explain.
I am from the South of Wales and i had a swab taken last week at a medical from the Army.
I have been out of the army 10 years and have not heard from them since.......then out of the blue i recieve a letter asking me to report for a medical and for reserve training on may 9th!
A number of my old army friends have had the same letter and also find this a bit strange.
So come the middle of may i will let ATS know what i have learned!
I hope it turns out to be something realy inocent and im worring over nothing but my head is telling me its not.....If anybody else is reading this and is has had the same letter....please get in touch

If they want my DNA, they'll have to swab it from my cold dead mouth!!

Failing that, they can just go up to the police files and get it from there

Wow, that great new, not bad. I'd gladly take part - and sheffields not a million miles from me, although, if they want men specifically, i've lucked out

(edit after reading article: .. failed the criteria on 2 counts, wrong area, wrong gender
)

I don't think this is any atempt what so ever to collect a database of DNA for the government. It's progress in technology like this that may help us solve problems/questions that have left blackholes in our history.
