I just got this in an email from one of my professors at college. It contained this link politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com...
which shows a news story in which Texas Governor Rick Perry says that if Washington does not change its spending ways that he could see Texas seceding from the union on the future. Also, Chuck Norris said he would run for President of Texas. Do you think this could or will actually happen?

Pffft! I laughed so hard at that! Would make an interesting country, hope the open minded make it out in time, I'd hate to be in a land choc crammed full of bigoted rednecks! Hell they'd probably have civil war after civil war and come crying to the Union to let them be part of the gang again!

While a seccession would be exciting, it won't happen most likely.

www.foxnews.com...

Here's a news article, he's vague, and really putting the light on himself, now that Election day is coming around the corner, and Mrs. Hutchinson is going at him.

If he riots this up, and looks like the good guy, he'll be re-elected.

Really? Have you even ever bothered to go to Texas? Surely you do know that our state is the only state in the Union that has the LEGAL right to secede when it gets ready. Surely you know that we have one of the largest economies in the WORLD. That's right, not in America, in the WORLD. Surely you know that we are the only state in the Union that actually owns its land rights.

Is there any other ignorant misconceptions that you would like to spew about the great state of Texas?

Then do it already, you've been talking for months now...

Surely you know that we have one of the largest economies in the WORLD.

Surely you know that texas requests the one of the largest assistance funds from the federal government regarding hurricanes, wild fires and druggies south of the border. Surely you understand that the economy of texas itself is successful because of its closely tagged relationship to the within US economy? Surely you understand that once you close off your border the consumer base around the US that makes texas will be closed off and blocked out by higher foreign trade taxes?

That's right, not in America, in the WORLD. Surely you know that we are the only state in the Union that actually owns its land rights.

And you think this is any benefit to suceeding? Perry is playing you, so is every other publicity seeking politician up for re-election. They all know that texas will loose out on plenty and gain little if it suceeds, not to mention no governor wants to be involved int he suceeding process because of the implications leading up to it and following it, and when your alone, things may not be as wonderful as would be assumed.

Perry knows its an unrealistic thing to happen, but he pretends to give a damn.

Is there any other ignorant misconceptions that you would like to spew about the great state of Texas?

Is there any more cheesy false patriotic garbage you would like to spew to the rest of us? Because I had my fill during the last administration.

Ummmh, Didn't we already settle this question back in 1865?

Seriously though, if the Texas governor keeps it up, wouldn't he be opening himself up for criticism for being anti-American? I mean its all well and fine to gripe about the way the Federal government does (or doesn't do) this or that, but to threaten succession is to threaten the stability of our Federal Union. In our Repuplic, if Texas doesn't like the way things are being run in DC, then they best elect someone who will go there and fix it.

Oh crap, that's right, Texas just sent someone there for the last eight years that was supposed to do that....

Maybe the United States just ought to throw Texas out, before they send us another problem fixer.

Word. Can't a chap have a giggle about the concept of Chuck Norris being the president Texas without patriotic fervor coming his way? Good grief.

Sashromi raises an excellent point too.

How many Texans would really want that? To be labelled as being un-American, isn't like being booted below the belt by a bronco to them?

We are Texans first, then Americans.

This kind of rhetoric happens everytime a democrat is in office.. Dont you guys remember the things that happened during the Clinton years?
Militias sprung up all over the the US, the Republic of Texas group that was chased into the Big Bend Mountains etc.
Ruby Ridge and Waco took care of the militia problem. I wonder what they will come up with to deal with these new "extremist groups?"
