Big or small, its still evidence. I would say a whole dynasty (15th) attributed to Non-Egyptian Rulers is fairly significant though. Wouldn't you?

You're very presumptuous about atheists being selfish, which makes me think you don't know any atheists well.

No atheist charities? Ignoring for a moment the fact that forming a charity proclaiming the non existence of God is a moronic thing to do, you seem to think that no atheist will do volunteer work or contribute to an already established charity.

But we shall look at a list of charities that are either explicitly or implicitly secular or atheist.

I've been asked often why there aren't any atheist charities. Of course, as usual, people are just presuming or parroting things they heard. Of course there are atheist charities. And like in my videos post, I am considering charities that do not promote a specific religion to be an atheist charity.

Americans United for Separation of Church and State
A national watchdog organization (with local chapters all around the U.S.---find one near you!) dedicated to preserving religious liberty. It is open to theists and nontheists of all kinds, and is headed by a minister with the United Church of Christ (Rev. Barry Lynn) who can be seen often in the national media and news stories centering on church/state separation issues.

American Civil Liberties Union (click on the "Religious Liberty" link)
A favorite target of the Religious Right. The ACLU defends civil liberties on many fronts including church/state separation, personal privacy, and legal protection through due process. Look for a local chapter in your area to join.

People for the American Way
Progressive group that supports secular values in government. PFAW is an activist organization and PAC (political action committee) working to battle such groups as the Christian Coalition. Click the "Religious Freedom" link for action alerts and information.

Freedom from Religion Foundation
Great organization that defends the rights of nontheists in courtrooms, sponsors a fun-filled annual national convention, and publishes the popular "Freethought Today" (magazine written by and for freethinkers).

Godless Americans Political Action Committee
Endorses and supports U.S. political candidates that support secular values in government and the rights of "godless Americans." We will have our "seat at the table" in formulating public policy.

Atheist Alliance
Democratic association of various individual atheists and atheist organizations. It is a great all-around resource for all-things atheist.

Interfaith Alliance
Alliance of leaders of various religions, worldviews, and beliefs that includes Christians, Muslims, Jews, Hindus, agnostics, atheists, et al. It works to promote religious freedom for everyone regardless of religious beliefs as well as civic participation and civility. Nontheists can find theist allies here.

So think twice before making the sweeping generalisations that atheists both are selfish and contribute nothing to society. After all, science is secular in it's nature, a look at what it has done for us.

yes i see your point. But im talking about an athiest organization that is obviously athiest. You can just assume that those are athiest run because they do not have God in the title but it would be just an assumption. Just because KFC does not call its self "gods choice in chicken" does not make it athiest as Colonel Sanders was a souther baptist. What i was talking about is an Athiest run organization i do not see any. You have christian charities/rehabs/halfway houses all over the place. No athiest ones. Im waithing for the day when i see an organizations of athiests that say somthing along the lines of "we are athiests and we are here to help"

Secular is defined as:

1. of or pertaining to worldly things or to things that are not regarded as religious, spiritual, or sacred; temporal: secular interests.
2. not pertaining to or connected with religion (opposed to sacred ): secular music.
3. (of education, a school, etc.) concerned with nonreligious subjects.



The secular is the only real way that atheists will do anything. This thread and situations when atheists are resisting religion and it's influence aside, when is an atheist not going to be doing things secular?

So this list is both atheistic and secular.

If a group of atheists wanted to form a charity to, say help the homeless, why the hell would they consider being atheist an important part of the charity organisation?!

They don't. Beliefs are unimportant in this situation, whereas the act of charity is. They'd therefore form a secular organisation where religion is irrelevant.

But your wider opinion that atheist don't or can't contribute anything to society is disgusting. Case in point, me. I'm a volunteer at the local SPCA animal shelter, itself a Secular organisation.

Must be nice to actually convince yourself that just because it's secular it's atheistic. And it's also worth noting that just becase someone a scientist does not make them an atheist, the implication seems to be there and I apologise if I am in error.

But these are organisations where religion or faiths are irrelevant, is my point, so they can't be chalked up to being a religious charity.

No I wasn't inferring that. This is a list of non-religious organisations. That non-religiousness part is the point.

Put it this way, if you made a venn diagram of charities, atheists would overlap greatly with the secular.

But the athiest ideal scene is "no religion" and athiests want the word god taken out because it goes against their views because they are athiests (which is valid and respectable). However the whole thing calling somthing that is secular athiestic looks to be just taking credit for somthing. Christians put god or christ in the titles to let people know who they are and what they are doing. Athiests could do the same thing but they do not, from what it looks like athiests just want to take credit for all those carities just becuase they are not tied in with a religion. Being secular is not athiestic. Just as praying to god does not make you a christian.

Please. Stop with the Atheist generalizations. There is only ONE THING Atheists have in common: They don't believe in God(s). Any other negative traits people are so desperate to apply to Atheists, are character flaws. There is nothing inherently evil or negative about Atheism.

No you are the one who is wrong. I never said that they didn't contribute i was asking WHAT they contribute and that I have never seen an athiest charity. You in turn produced a group of secular organizations caliming they were athiest organizations. I also said that Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong and Pol Pot were all athiests and ran religion free states and we all saw how well that turned out.
