First, I'd create ultimate beauty, whatever that may be to my imagination. And since I 'had' absolute power, I'd destroy that beauty, knowing it could never be perfected to my liking. It would be truly a lonely existence where the possibility is endless. Sorry, but this is THE truth.

I hit some link accidentally that killed my original post, but in short; if you were in aboslute power and could do whatever, would that not compromise the free will of humanity in creating your utopia?

You have an opinion, but that does not mean it is right.

Same goes for me.

I tend to think if Utopia is possible then...

The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one.

Just my 2 cents.

"It's just a ride" can't get that out of my head...

Alright so if it is just a ride, but you wake up tomorrow with the power to destroy and rebuild the ride in whatever way you wanted to. It just wouldn't be the same as getting on a ride you've never seen before, you couldn't have as much fun on it, as pikypiky said "it could never be perfected to my liking", You could build your own thrills ups and downs but as far as a ride would go it'd be boring because you'd know when all the exciting bits are coming up. You'd never get off the ride because you'd never be satisfied with it because you'd know you can do more. The other people on the ride will be having fun(or not as the case may be) so you could never relate to them.

Absolute power, isolates absolutely I'm beginning to think

Hmmm, I'm not really saying that the system wouldn't work or that people wouldn't be happy in your utopia, I'm sure that it the breakthroughs in science would come pouring in and that very fast humans would spread quickly throughout the universe with that kind of team work and motivation. But it will still leave you alone, you will constantly need to be checking on your creations making sure they don't annihilate themselves accidentally with new technology, who would allow an accident to destroy their perfect utopia, and then if they reach other planets were there are people with malicious intent who see earth as a viable resource then you would need to destroy them or change them like you did earth and this will occur at an exponential rate and in the end with the entire universe single minded and united as 1 You would still need to take constant care of them so they are not killed by stars collapsing or galaxies imploding and the like,

You said the needs of the few outweigh the many, well when the many is the whole universe (and we're taking absolute power anyway) you would be sick and tired spiritually of taking care of them, you will be alone you will not understand them, and they certainly wont understand you... Maybe you'd still look after them for the greater good.

This thread reminds me of Marvel comicbook characters Mad Jim Jaspers and Jamie Braddock who both had reality warping powers on a Universal level. They used this power for their own interests and more or less recreated the universe in their own image without really catering to the needs of humanity in general. Even though it's from a comic, I think it could be a true reflection of what the average person would do if suddenly given free-will and absolute power in the universe.

Irishwolf, thanks for the reply -Bill was a very wise man but I was more refering to the bit at the end where he talks about:

"..taking all that money we spend on weapons and defense each year
and instead spend it feeding, clothing and educating the poor of the world which it would many times over (not one human being excluded) and we can explore space together ,both inner and outer, forever in peace."

Cheers.

Very interesting thread!

I think if I suddenly had absolute power, and my thoughts were translated to reality...... I would be afraid to dream.

Perhaps a roundabout way of saying that I think human beings lack the intellectual and emotional maturity to wisely use even a fraction of that power.

Random Acts of Kindness.

You have absolute power? You could effectively retire from everything. No need to sleep, eat, or anything related to that.

I would like to teach random acts of kindess. I wouldn't want to wave my hand and change people without their free will. I would want to encourage people to want to change themselves and their communities for the better.

I would want to teach those with no empathy, compassion. I would want to encourage people to reach out to each other. To not be overwhelmed by fear of their fellow man.

What else would I do? I would be overwhelmingly tempted to mess with people for fun. (Not in nasty ways). But then the joke would probably end up on me, as there wouldn't be laughter at the end, but horror that I had this power to do whatever I had done. (if you follow).

What else? Clean up the climate problems. Solve the over-population, under-rescourced problems. Find a constructive way to live with our environment instead of just IN our environment.

Just off the top of my head.

All I can say is " Thank God " none of you have that kind of power. Life isn't life without everything we have now and the human race will never reach a higher being without learning things the hard way first. If I had that kind of power I'd put it in a power safe that could never be opened by anyone but me and throw away the keys forever.

Buuuuut! If I could do one thing then it would be that no child could ever be hurt, abused, raped or murdered. If anyone tries to do this then they will fall over and turn to dirt.

I just think the montauk project version of this already exists. They have already worked out how to take human thoughts and amplify them like written about the montauk project.

So its probably going on already, but obviously at early stages. Probably 1 reason why usa won the cold war. The power of the will, over everything else.

I just think my version will come true, as i see thsi reflected in visions of aliens. Aliens we percieve have just one gender, and they seem to have oleft all ego behind.

But heck thats for tomorrows world, and we know the consumer society bull will be here for the rest of our lifes.

If I have absolute power i will like to know what it’s feels to be really alive.
The rest is details and nonsense.

In all honesty, I will admit, that the absolute power would eventually corrupt me and lead to my downfall. All my virtues and morals would be replaced by a narcissistic strait, which would develop into a nihilistic view point.

The benevolent god theory is proved contradictory when humans are placed in "god-like" roles and situations. We become tormentors, abusers and descend into malevolent creatures.

In other words, to be given such power is - literally - the playground of tyrants. Regardless of your beliefs or how enlightened and revolutionary you will be with your powers, in the end, we all become the very thing we hate the most.

q's could kill eachother couldn't they? anyways i'd decree sentience to be eternal,ie if something was going to happen to wipe out all life forever..well that couldn't happen anymore.

then i'd decree that this power be unattainable ever again, and remove it from whoever has it,me included.

then i'd kick back and party

I would keep that power for ever. Until I got bored perhaps...
I would also become everyone and everything at the same time, and experience how it is to be them all.

And it would be fun to play God as well. Call me immoral for that, but I think it would be fun..

I would throw a huge intergalactic party on Saturn's rings (I will meld the rocks orbiting it into a real ring and then we will all roller skate at light speed!) .

Q did not have "absolute" power. No individual entity has or ever shall have absolute power for eternity. Only a 'peaceful' Borg-like entity with the power to destroy evil is capable of "absolute" power. This is what the so-called illuminati fear most because they know such an entity exists and it is on its way here right now.

I'd Create a bald dude in a wheelchair and have him open a school.

I'd be secretly drafted into the Canadian military, where experiments would be conducted on me giving me metal bones that are unbreakable...

I'd find a few hot chicks, put them in skimpy outfits with X's on them. I Guess I could Let one control the weather, and give the other one the ability to take over should something happen to the old bald dude.

Maybe throw in a buddy who is blue and hairy, and a friend of his who shoots lasers from his eyes.

We shall call ourselves... The Mutated Super People!

Wait...
