Unusual amount of Military Activity in the skies

I live near the Ohakea airbase in New Zealand. We have a pretty much redundant airforce and I think the latest model jet we have are Skyhawks, we're talking really old. They are meant to be grounded but recently have been doing alot of manouevres. Last night we had helicopters around our area for over 3 hours my kids were outside watching their lights and wondering what was happening as it was very unusual. From the sound of them I would guess they were aeroquoys (SP?). I don't know why the N.Z. government even bothers cos we couldn't even protect out borders with these outdated aircraft l

The 278th officially hit the road today. The are headed to Camp Shelby, Miss. for training and prep, and will be in Iraq by October. Helos were crazy active this morning and afternoon, despite bad weather, but things were all quiet later today. I suspect I won't see anything like I had earlier this year for a long time.

I live in Port Washington, Wisconsin about 1/2 mile from Lake Michigan. In 1998 my wife witnessed a Triangular craft. (if interested see MUFON report for Oct 1998) Since then we both have been more observant. There is a Navy base about 30 miles north of us that is an ELF base station and Chicago lies to our south 150 miles. We see a large amount of commerical air traffic because of the Milwaukee and Chicago airports.

I have seen quite a number of "black" helicopters ranging over the lake. I use my 10 x 50 binoculars to check on alot of aircraft in my area. I have also noticed over the past 5 years 3 low orbit objects that appear around dusk that flash red,green and blue.

Are these satellites? If so why the flashing lights? I would think that any other high or low orbit manned or controlled objects would have these things plotted for avoidance.

I have seen alot of these flying around and landing at a local air field near Chicago. I know just what you mean, and this air field is tiny it's capable of taking large planes but it just gets barely any air traffic.
