I'm not siding with North Korea. Again, as they have done with their Nuclear Power program they are probably trying to do with this launch... extort money from other nations. However one thing I am not clear on is how do we know it is a missile and not a satellite? It would be just like North Korea to spread false rumors that it is actually a missile to scare us into its blackmail scheme. Did they not say it was a satellite?

...maybe it is indeed time to call their bluff and end this charade.

It has something to do with the trajectory of the missile/rocket which determines if it's a missile/satellite.

Exactly, we will know very quickly if this missile has a ballistic trajectory which is intended to hit Japan.

I'm 99% certain that failing a technical malfunction that is not the case.

And that is the biggest risk here - namely that something goes wrong with the missile in mid-flight causing it to disintegrate. The North Koreans could easily believe it was the result of deliberate interference.

I'd be interested to see any reports showing NK troop mobilization near the NK/SK border. Are they making any preparations for a potential conflict?

You're only missing one point though... whether that missle carries a satellite or not, it's still an ICBM.

For North Korea to have ICBM's, whether it's used to bring satellites into orbit or otherwise, it's going to be a major arms development for North Korea.

The worrying thing is that China is potentially waiting in the wings, ready to "defend" NK should it kick off with Japan?

Yes we have anti-satelite missiles. So does Great Britain and several other of our allies. Taking out the satelite would still be construed as an act of war.

Yes, I think that's true, but the North Koreans aren't exactly the pinnacle of high technology. If they got it into orbit and lost contact with it, I think they'd be hard pressed to explain what happened to it.

Japan would love to go to a war with N. Korea, since they have a very limited amount of resources in their homeland.

Japan has been trying for many past-wars to take over precious resources from other countries for their own profit/interest/benefit.

You can argue to say as some people are stating that western nations like U.S are fighting for the freedom of democracy + OIL.

Japan on the other said; would fight for the freedom of their own defense + resources.

Come one; if Japan surely would not want to go to war they would not dare to shoot the missle down. They are just trying to show the international powers its legit reason for defense.

Who sold those patriot missles to Japan = US. Yayyy

For the well-being of America , if a war occurs , your government should stay out of it , by well-being I meant for your economic health , of course you could crush them , but funding that would put you all in the grave . This conflict should involve the regional powers only , South Korea and Japan .

I totaly agree that they should stay away from it , but things would not be so simple taking in consideration the way USA acted during the last years.

Like you mentioned above if there was a war to start it should be a regional conflict , however i am unsecure about China staying out of it . And when China takes a side Russia takes a side , when Russia takes a side Iran and them other countries take a side. Thats it when USA would also have to take a side , and thats how from something not very important , something terrifying escalates.

And this period of waiting full of expectations before it finally happens is pretty bad too I'm quite worried , the neighbours in the region are famous for being .... special , and an escalation could be the perfect reason for China to attempt an invasion of Taiwan . Can't wait until 4 april but I hope everyone will calm down ...
Plus I don't really know a lot of things on your president , I used to know a lot about the former Pres.
, but I've never seen Obama's reactions in such a context of tension . I hope he will keep his calm !!!!!
Thats too bad no NKorean people can tell us what's the feeling there ...But I bet they're ready since they announced launch date

OK, do we need to break out the doom numbers...

What I mean is N.K's rocket/missile numbers VS Japan's?

What about fighter/bomber craft on either side?

If S.Korea does not get attacked, what will they do... besides freak-out?

Russia????
China???
anyone else???

I personally think Japan should shoot it down if it goes over their territory. And once NK declare war, Japan needs to open up a can of whupping on them. Basically, I am getting tired of NK rhetoric and threats. It is about time somebody shuts them up.

Lets see now - who bombed pearl harbour ? Not north Korea.....

China would never attack Taiwan they get along alot better than people think. Now north Korea wouldn't attack Japan but i cant say the same for japan attacking North Korea. They were upset and all ready calling for military action over the kidnapping of Japanese citizens supporting the red army and harboring them from prosecution. There is a dispute over territory

The Liancourt Rocks, also known as Dokdo or Tokto , literally "solitary island") in Korean or Takeshima , literally "bamboo island") in Japanese,[ And lets throw in the nuclear threat japan faces.

So if japan could look like the good guy and be defending themselves they might go all the way and they would win. Contrary to belief china would set it out as well as the United States we could not get involved and neither could china.

www.cnn.com...

North Korea has begun fueling its long-range rocket, according to a senior U.S. military official. The fueling signals that the country could be in the final stages of what North Korea has said will be the launch of a satellite into space as early as this weekend, the senior U.S. military official said Wednesday.

They don't seem to be willing to calm the game ... What's very unpleasant is the "steps" told by all the medias , it's normal to keep us informed of course , but each time another step is made , such news fall on our heads bannng . I wonder if they can wait until april 4 to kill each other they all must be boiling down there . What's worrying is the lack of informations coming from NK , we only have U.s informations ABOUT NK , or sometimes they make some kind of propagandist declarations on T.v and radios giving us very few informations . Even the defense minister ( correct this if wrong ) Gates is very disinformative , they send Aegis ships there and the guy is like " hmmm yeah I don't know if we'll do something about the flying sausage " .
Weird situation

Each time you see EDIT on my posts it means I took the time to correct my grammar mistakes as well as possible don't tell me I'm an illettrate pleaaaase I'm a foreigner

The latest on the tense situation from Japan..

North launch would be 'act of provocation'

Japan will condemn North Korea for an "act of provocation" if it launches a long-range ballistic missile and Prime Minister Taro Aso will instruct the government to increase its surveillance, official sources said Wednesday.

Cabinet members would be expected to gather at the prime minister's office to discuss ways to deal with the launch, should it occur, with the goal of having the U.N. Security Council adopt a new sanctions resolution against Pyongyang, the sources said.

North Korea has said it will launch a rocket sometime between April 4 and 8 to put a satellite into orbit. Japan, South Korea and the United States suspect Pyongyang actually plans to test a long-range ballistic missile.

Damn the Pacifist Japanese!! What ever happened to the Bushido spirit!

They should take Kim Jong Ills' challenge already. If N.Korea launches a missile over Japan, Japan should declare that an act of war and bomb N.Korea.

With the America Ageis missile shield and PAC-3 no way a N.Korean missile is getting through. After about a 50 missiles or so they will stop because they dont have any. Then the JSDF and the USAF can go in the rain phosphor bombs and MOABs on those unwashed savages till they have sticks and stones left.

The N.Koreans are only bold against S.Korea because they are a huge mob of disposable soldiers. They cant do the same to Japan which is across the Yellow sea.
