The problem I see is that Islam does not separate politics from religion. To muslims, their religion is the basis of government and their legal system.

That is diametrically opposed to our philosophy of separation of church and state.

Same as it is for Christians in this country, there's not really a definite separation of church and state here.

I don't care what religion, gender, sexual orientation people are as long as they do their job well.

Doesn't surprise me a bit that the first Affirmative Action president is making Affirmative Action hires. obama got elected because of the color of his skin, did you honestly expect him to hire the most qualified person over the most politically correct choice?
