I come from Manchester and I now live t''other side of the border and If I have learnt anything it is Yorkshire people and Lancashire people are more or less the same we all enjoy the banter between us...

Sitting on a Cretaceous 'saurian concretion'




The cliff is full of these concretions.




Cretaceous marine reptile bone in a concretion. I have found fish bones and other plesiosaur bones in these as well, but since the 2011 earthquakes, those concretions are not visible anymore, so was pleased to find this one. A Mosasaur (now in Canterbury Museum) was found in this area (not by me unfortunately)!



KT Boundary section in the Waipara Gorge. Not as impressive as the ones in Marlborough, but still cool to be able to visit.

Nice pics. That is a beautiful place for sure. NZ is on my lists of places I wouldn't mind relocating to.
In your fist pic, that rounded stone that you're sitting on is cool. Is there a story behind that? I also noticed a large round stone in the picture of the cliff.

ETA: never mind. I had to reread your post. What is a concretion?

Concretions

They come in many guises but that link should help.
These ones are mostly spheroids, and are simliar in shape to the 'famous' Moeraki boulders near Dunedin.

Yep, it's a beautiful country. Has a few problems too, and an arse of a Prime Minister (ex Merrill Lynch banker), but I love it here

Here's my wife (right) and a friend of hers, with her favorite celeb, Ian Somerhalder (Damien from Vampire Diaries)



My wife with that same friend's grandchildren, at our ranch, with one of our horses, Kay-tee.
We love it when our friends bring their kids or grandkids to the ranch for some riding and fun.

Our stable gal can be seen just a bit on the left of the pic.

On the True Blood pic, I have to say, Arlene is gorgeous in person. They kind of frump her up on the show. I kept my hand respectfully on her waist though. She's married (to the actor who played Ben Linus on LOST).

I always thought she was lovely...In fact your wife has a look of her, could be sisters.
Only messing about the stable hand I have ridden two horses in my life and both bolted...one went about 2 mile before they got it to slow down, It went insane.
