Religion, what a concept. What is religion? Its just personal belief correct? I mean I ask myself this question and this is my answer to myself "its just a personal belief". Im looking to hear others peoples opinions to possibly expand on my thought.

Thanks,

Well, you're about to open a can of worms here, this should be interesting.

Religion is set of beliefs and morals that are taught using the worship of a one deity or another.

Personnal beliefs often greatly differ, even among some of the more religious groups in the world, but "organized" religion usually speak of same ideals and goals for their movement.

It can be used as a vehicle of power, a vehicle of opression but it can also bring some good into people's lives. Some people simply need to believe in something higher than themselves in order to justify the thigns they see and the things they do in their day to day lives.

It's all a matter of perception really.

Myself I am more of a spiritualist then religious. I preach the Gospel of I Don't Know when it comes to God and all other things holy.

Good luck in finding your answer.

Religion is a theory. no more then Einsteins (although not based in reality).

religion is a theory of who / what / why / when / where, the only reason it is still valid is because people are stupid, for lack of a better word.

it makes me giggle at the puppets.

They dont believe the sun is 17 miles away and the universe is an infinite ocean stretching forever. Yet they continue to believe a theory created by those same people - - ie. god.

you dont need to be taught religion in order to have morals, if your parents are not teaching you morals because they did not teach you religion, your parents are useless.

I look at religion and see it as a fertilizer.
You fertilize a persons mind to get them to think in a certain manner or act in a certain manner.
Something religion and fertilizer has in common is you can smell the crap from it a mile away.

I do not believe that religion is a personal belief, but a collection of beliefs and guidelines put in place for others to follow. Each of our personal beliefs is not religion, but a concept of spirituality.

what if your religion only has one belief or one guideline does that mean it can't be a religion? Its really a fine line that has been draw, but great comments so far keep them coming!

Hmm, tough stuff to talk about really.
Religion can mean so much different things to different people.

Personally I am, like someone said above, more of a spiritual person rather than a religious one.

But to me the todays Christian religion, for example, are based upon all the chapters in the bible.
And the bible, is to me, a book of guidelines, where most of the stories in it are references of that times interpretation of the paranormal.

In other words, I have a feeling and a belief that people interpreted the bible alot different thousands of years ago than we do today.

It's almost like that the fable creature "The Dragon" most likely came to peoples mind after making an early excavation of a dinosaur skeleton thousands of years ago.

So to me religions are a tool for humans to use when they need to get comfort, company, guidance and also we see it being used as an excuse for some "leaders" so they can do what they want or make their member do as they desire.

I am not hostile towards religion in the way that, if I would experience God in a way where I would feel, Ok HE is real, by him exposing himself towards me, I would gladly hear him out.

But so far, religion haven't brought us to much good in this world.

Some would say: Hey God makes miracles sometimes, they are good.
Yeah, Miracles are good, but I don't believe that God has exclusive right to make Miracles. I believe there are other forces.

We are so busy looking up the sky looking for God that we forget the look down and care for the true life form we should worship, Earth.
I rather worship our planet. A planet that I can smell, feel and touch.

I try to look at our planet as a living entity. If it has self awareness or not I can not say, but it is for sure living.

Bah, long post again.

Ok, to sum it up.

I believe religion is a human tool for guidance where everyone can use the tool in a way so it fits their own agenda and needs.

No, it can be a religion. What I mean is that if one person has a belief that is defferent than any other persons belief that does not make that individuals ideas a religion. I think for something to be called a religion it needs to have some sort of organization, a meeting place, or mabey a spiritual leader. Not just one persons ideas...

I think religion implies belief about how this present life and an afterlife to come depend upon one another. In a nutshell religion implies the belief that one cannot live our present life without consequences both in this life and after death.

I believe this too. Earth processes move so slow that we think of it as an inanimate object... It was actually even mentioned in the Bible a few times that the Earth actually talks and even prays to God.

By the Christian belief, not only is the Earth a living thing but also capable of intelligent communication in some form.

But still, I won't worship the Earth, only be a true friend at best
