Fake Passports Easy to get, Investigators Find

www.cnn.com

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A congressional investigation has exposed gaping holes in security eight years after the September 11 terrorist attacks, a government report says.

An investigator used a false identification to obtain a U.S. passport and then used the passport to get an airline boarding pass and go through an airport security checkpoint, according to the Government Accountability Office.

The GAO investigator tested the passport system four times, and obtained a passport all four times. One of the social security numbers used was from someone that died in 1965, another from a 5 year old child. He put down that he was 53 on the application using the 5 year old social security number, and no one batted an eye.

This is pathetic. All this money spent to make things more secure, and there are more holes now than before 9/11. I'm so glad that we're spending billions of dollars, and taking 40 years to build a high way in West Virginia that will go nowhere, when we have situations like this going on.

Hardly a surprise or shocking. There have been many reports & examples (RFID?) since 9-11 of security lapses. The boondoggle that is DHS has done a magnificent job of pissing away tax payer money whilst occasionally injecting boogeyman scare tactics to keep the average knuckle dragging pinhead frightened and distanced.

The Feds are trying to find a problem wth everyting. Have you noticed all the ads lately about identity theft, hacking Fed sites to get social security numbers, etc. I dont believe half of it. They try to scare the public to quickly enact their new ID policies. They have a plan to solve all the WORLDS problems.

Anything created by man to protect us can be defeated by man. Nothing is 100% safe. If someone wants to get into this country bad enough or wants to hack any security system and has had training in this (i.e. hackers) they'll be able to get in and do what they want. They have already proved they can reprogram RFID. There is nothing that can protect us fully. there will always be cracks in the armor.

Cracks in the system are one thing. These are giant holes. They didn't even check to see if these people were real or check any of their background information. The same person got four separate passports under four names, and no one caught anything.
