So then I get yet another call! This time, intead of a typical "Hello", I answered the phone by saying, "You've reached the gift shop, did
you get a call?" There was a brief moment of awkward silence, then the lady said "Uh...I think I mis-dialed" and hung up
That's pretty funny. It definitely was most likely a call from a call center or something like that. By answering like that you threw them off
their game.
Perhaps you should call your phone provider and see if they know anything. If not, you can always have your telephone company permanently block that
number. You could try calling them back too and raise a holy ruckus.
[On a lighter note] You could get this guy to answer the phone for you:
LOL, thanks I needed that.
Many years ago, during a financially stressful time, we would get tons of calls per day. One company would call me 15-20 times per day, telling me I
had to get loans from family and friends to pay them when I would explain our financial situation.
When I started screening my calls and not answering any from collection agencies, they looked up my address online, found who my neighbors were, and
started calling my neighbors. It became so bad most of my neighbors began harassing me for all the phone calls they were getting in regards to my
bills. Many of these neighbors I had never even met. The bill collectors would harass them enough, that they would walk or drive a block to my house
to "give me a message" from the bill collectors.
I would verbally tell them to stop calling my neighbors and myself, and they would say ok, and still call. I found out that legally, I had to send
them a notice in writing telling them to NOT CALL my neighbors or myself, and that if they needed to contact me they could only do so by mail at my
address only.
It actually took multiple letters being sent before I "got the right address", seems they make it hard to find the correct address on purpose so
they can claim they were never sent a written request to stop calling.
When I asked a legal representative if this company was doing anything illegal by calling my neighbors in regards to my bills, I was told no, that
legally they could do so. The one thing that would make it illegal, was if they were to tell my neighbors how much I owed. Which of course they
never did.
I suspect that you are either getting calls from a bill collector or from a company trying to sell something. Many places have computers do the
calling for them, and when you answer you will either get no one saying anything, or a computer voice telling you to wait on the line for an important
message.
I would suggest trying to get their address and then sending them a letter telling them to "bug off", nicely.
Still getting the calls, and the 3 letter "company name" hasn't been consitent. On the most recent call, they said a different 3 letter acronym. I
really wish I wrote it down, but I'm not always prepaired when these calls hit. But it was definetly different. This time the connection was really
bad on their end, so I just politley said "Maam, you're breaking up really bad" and she just hung up with out saying anything after that (once
again hanging up on me in mid-sentence)
So I went to google and search more diligently than before.
I came up with the fact that it is a ground line, in MARIETTA GA
Further research revealed Deltacom is the phone service provider not the company calling me, although I am considering contacting Deltacom and placing
a complaint.
The site was helpful but only to an extent, it says something about being able to pay for additional info. but I have no interest in paying to find
out this company's real name...at least not yet.
I'm really disapointed that so many folks are just writing this off as a bill collector. I am extremely confident this isn't about bill collecting.
As I stated in the OP there are numerous forems out there where dozens and dozens of people are getting called from the same phone number as me.
The Agents or Operators or scammers (whatever) all have somewhat the same type of greeting and schpeel (spelling) it's all to try to get you to give
them your credit card number...This is a scam folks! And it seems to be a rather relentless one.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!...Please Help!

Whoa now, I don't remember you saying anything in your OP about them asking for your credit card number. That changes things. I would definitely
report them to your phone company, and probably also to their phone provider, and ask if there's anything further you can do.
I hope you haven't given them credit card information, but have you seen reports on any of these web forums from people who have? They could probably
report the company to their banks. You might also check out whether your state has any information online about reporting telephone scams.
