In the time I have spent here both lurking and registered I have come to the conclusion that people thrive off gossip, hearsay, and sensationalized stories. I know that this is no new thought for many of you. Forget Aliens, the NWO, chemtrails and the like. Some people here at ATS and many similar sites could care less about facts or information from legitimate web sites regarding their posts and the posts of others and only care as long as the information they reference fit their paranoid delusional beliefs. Many people out there in cyberspace can put a well authored website together in a very short time and have content or "facts" supporting some far fetched extravagant story that would surely get starred and flagged without most of the people reading the post or looking elsewhere for supporting information.

Is it a race to get the post up so you will be important.....before you check your facts? Is it that they are so gullible that they don't know any better? Maybe it is some social phenomenon where they feel that there lives are uneventful and boring so they need something to encite emotion and excitement in their otherwise meaningless world?

Some are even so bad that when others post FACTS they are called dis-info agents......WOW!......more excitement, feed it and it grows.

To clarify, I am not saying that there are not some good posts on a great number of topics here because there is. I personally have seen a UFO, what I believed at the time to be a ghost and some other strange events that I cannot explain......but then again I have seen some things here I cannot explain...

I think it's important to be able to separate one's self from judgments about what is "legitimate information" and what is "delusional", and be able to focus on understanding and communication.

Not to say people shouldn't form opinions and share them, of course - but a far greater skill in "Denying Ignorance" is the ability to empathize, communicate, and attempt find common ground, even when you might totally disagree with someone.

ATS is certainly a learning-ground for the variety of opinions and approaches people have towards viewing the world.

Well going by your thread title

ATS is an important medium for understanding human behavior.
you are forgetting the, atleast 15-20%, non-humans that are posting on ATS...

But going by the content of your OP i'd say...ignore the posters that p*ss you off..

Peace

ATS has never promised anyone the truth, only civil discussion about the events of the world. It's not the place of the members of this community to tell you what to believe. All we can do is place it all out on the table and each of us takes what fits in with the information we already have and make up our own minds about it.

Sometimes that works out great, sometimes it doesn't. More often than not it's fun though. At least I think so.

I have to admit, sometimes when a thread is not informative in any way, shape or form they can generally be entertaining to say the least and good for a laugh.

I am not saying that people should not be allowed their opinion and their opinions do not anger me in the least, however a majority of the opinions that posters use as fact are just opinions of others from here and elsewhere on the web that certain individuals see as the gospel truth.

Some of these posters should take up writing sci-fi novels and movie scripts and leave the facts for the grownups.
