Seems that half of my school is "devolving" haha.

No, but seriously. Even with the amount of idiots, there are geniuses all over.

Soon enough, kids will be learning Calculus in 8th grade. The rate at which more advanced topics are approaching junior high is alarming actually. Just recently, at my high school, they raised the credits needed to graduate to compensate for the amount of "Advanced Classes" offered in junior high.

I will say our race is definitely going down an"intelligent" one, not a beastly one.

Interesting that someone mentioned a corporate caste system.

I now live close to 'The City' in London - the financial district.

I've often noted that there seem to be an unnaturally high proportion of tall males (>6'2), often with very strong facial features, wavy hair, deeper voice - coming out of the big name top tier corporate buildings.

Same with women - generally tall, light haired, strong facial features.

Is this banks just selecting 'good looking' intelligent people above ugly intelligent people or is there perhaps some link between these said features and one's ability to succeed in such environments?

I once read that taller people are more likely to succeed in their careers - higher pay, climb higher etc. I always put this down to a social thing - better looking = more confidence etc etc.

But perhaps it is evidence of some kind of divergence in evolution. After-all, these people will statistically meet their partner at work and then have kids with them thus propagating the same traits... those kids then get a good education, probably similarly a good job, where they too will meet similar people.

The idea of a corporate caste is not far fetched at all.

Look, first of all evolution and creation are two sides of the same coin. From my perspective, the important thing is that we are here.

Second, if this was 'Zionist' propaganda, I think it would be a much more prevalent idea.

Also, I recommend looking into some of the DNA research that has been done recently. There is mounting evidence that DNA is alterred by life experience, sound, etc. Before you dismiss this, please do some RESEARCH. Of particular relevance, from my perspective, is that Dna has been found to be non-phyical as well as physical.

The point being that if humans are physically evolving, it may very well be because we are evolving culturally.

I Don't think people are getting dumber, not really. There have always been people of questionable intelligence all through history, some in positions of considerable power. I think it is seemingly more prevalent now days because the mass media allows these people to reveal themselves far easier then they were able to before. Just look at all the people online that make you cringe, some people in this very thread seem to lack a certain level of development in their mentality. People aren't really getting dumber, the dumb people are just getting more exposure.

I have read most of the arguments, most of the blah-blah-blah. So science is 'best guess', so evolution is 'an opinion', so what? What is creationist 'dogma'? You got it, 'best guess' and 'an opinion'. Certainly makes it seem like they are on even footing doesn't it? Only they're not. One is, if only in part, testable in a lab, and the other, well, you just kinda have to take other peoples word for it. Not very solid at all in my opinion. I imagine myself standing in front of two sellers of apples, and one is telling me where his fruit came from, and has verifyable data to show me the grower, the shipping company that brought him his fruit, and the exact location of the grove. Now the other, not only doesn't have any of that information, BUT he also doesn't even have any idea how his fruit got onto the table in the first place... Really... Yet he claims it is safe, and reliable. Even though it just kinda 'magically appeared' on his table... Right...

I think your right about that. Theres more people so it makes sense that there are more "dumb" people as well, but it also means that there are alot more smart ones.

I dont think anyone should be evaluating evolution based on their experiences in highschool or with their experiences with children because after all they are children! When I was a kid all I really did was play video games, but I dont do that anymore and I would say that Ive grown to be a reasonably intelligent person.

If people are going to say humanity is de-evolving and everyone is getting dumber and dumber than that would suggest that you too are an ediot and getting dumber and dumber. For the most part I think children and alot of my peers are smart people.

Gene expression is not mutation. Despite it being labeled as such. Terminology is a powerful thing. If you control how people speak of reality, you control how they perceive reality.

I do believe that our limited knowledge of temporal mechanics and our minute understanding of our origines would make this hard to prove. At the end of it, we see what we want to see. With the increase in the shuman resonance, perhaps those years, or perception of them, has led us to those conclusions.

This has yet to be 100% proven to be true even though I assume it is likely, but either way it is pretty incredible. This article is suggesting that physical human evolution is increasing at an exponential rate.

How can they make such a statement? We weren't personally around 10,000 years ago, or 100,000 years ago, or any other time in our species' history. We do not have any digital records of our DNA stored on a hard drive from hundreds of thousands or millions of years ago through ten thousand years ago.

Of course this has yet to be proven 100% true and can never be proven 100% true until we discover our true origins in the universe. We do not know if we evolved on this planet or we were seeded here by someone or something else. It's just another presumptuous theory from more self-righteous scientists.

There is no conclusive proof that we evolved from apes. It is just a theory. Therefore, they are basing their new theory on an old theory that hasn't even been proven true. I am not a man of religion (I think religion is detrimental to mankind) but I am a man who believes in spirituality. I do not believe in the theory of evolution nor do I believe in the theory of creation as stated in religious texts. I do believe there is so much we do not know about our origins because we refuse to see what is before our very eyes, i.e. the great pyramids, the Nasca lines, Stonehenge, the Mayan culture, etc. We interpret it how we choose to see our heritage, but not always how it really is perhaps because we are afraid for what it will mean to society and the power elite that control it.

Humanity likes to think it is at the center of the universe. And we may very well be the only form of life in the universe consisting of a biological and spiritual form. Other intelligent forms of life may desire to understand us and even to an extent worship us. Just as they could have advantages over us (technologically), we could possess something they do not: a divine mind/spirit. We still have a lot of spiritual growing up to do, and it will ultimately help us in our pursuit of knowledge and truth.

Sometimes I think you zealous naturalists need to comprehend hyperbole. He exaggerated some thing, and put them in a foolish light, to make a point. Most of the explanations to make things work (like punctuated equilibrium) are merely the result of intelligent, misguided people trying to intellectualize their rather inept views of reality and the absurdities that sprout from into something they can swallow, without having to challenge their beliefs or look like fools to the unwashed masses or their peers. Mutations are always harmful. There may be exceptions, but extremely rare if they exist. End of story on mutations being a process of evolution.

It's an interesting thread but the conclusion that we are progressing to a Next thing is presumptuous.

Not that something new is coming, but that only ONE new thing is coming.

My take is that humanity's success will spin out a plethora of variations on the theme, our technology and science added to natural selection will push that to an extreme.

I would not be surprised if there are human variants which we would not recognize as being human in a few hundred years.

I cannot help think that humanity will construct or modify human forms to live in every potential environment in the solar system. Perhaps to live without ships in the vacuum of space itself.

I believe we have successfully slipped the bounds of natural selection in regards to human development already.

When trans species genetics goes full throttle, I fully expect merepeople to be one of the first adaptations. How many people would opt to become strictly aquatic dwellers, combining their DNA with whales and other sea mammals? How many does it take to start a self sustaining population?
Not many really.

I expect there will be conflicting schools of thought on that and several distinct approaches will be explored, coastal dwelling otter people, deep sea exploring whale people. Many people would choose to live free and wild given the chance, others might be drawn to economic advantages for employment. I see it starting progressively with enhancements to professional divers to make them less dependant upon technology.
