hi all,

i thought with all the tensions over there at the moment its a fair question to ask. if things escalate, theres a fair probability these countries may be involved in military action.

i know N.korea has a massive ground force, but apart from that i know very little about their air force or naval fleet.

what about japan and S.Korea?

can anyone shed some light on the forces of these countries and who would emerge on top if a war became reality?

cheers, G

Well according to this website, Japan is listed as having the 7th most power army in the world, while South Korea is listed as having the 12th.

North Korea falls at #18....

Japan hasa huge deepwater navy too, although technically its a "self defense force" (wink wink nudge nudge) since under their constitution war was made illegal after WWII (Yeah, I'm sure that one will stand the test of history real well...lol...). Atr any rate by some estimates their navy is second only to the US in size and technology. Also, there is a great deal of weapons-grade uranium and plutonium in Japan used for peaceful energy generation that could easily be converted into a sizable nuclear arsenal in less than a month. (Wonder why our Iran-crazed administrations of recent years haven't seen the necessity of taking out a "nuclear-ready" Japan...?)

N.Korea doesnt have the best military of the three, but with the amount of firepower they have pointing south it doesnt matter.A war would equal a very very bad outcome for south korea.

Well there is disclaimer that says it does not take into account nuclear capability as that would defeat the purpose. And most of those figures have been taken from either 2003 or 2006 estimates.

I mean there is no country in the world who would actively and willingly divulge their military numbers, doing so would be suicide.

not much is probably known about North Korea though that's the only problem.

Japans got Godzilla and mech-warriors ,
seriously Japan and South Korea may not like each other on a personal level but are allies on a geopolitical level. The two of them would crush North Korea.

now on a one on one level with no out side intervention that's a tough one .

Honestly, in my opinion North Korea has a most powerful military however, they do not possess the infastructure to sustain a prolonged war. Japan does if this scenario were to become a reality my vote goes to China and Japan.

It does not matter who has the strongest military.
The results are already worked out in advance, just as you think one side gets the upper hand, the enemy somehow get intel to sabotage the next attack.
happens time and time again.

I kinda have the impression N Korea would be fighting a 1960's style of war and would lack the command and control to properly organize it's large military . They would try for some kind a Blitzkrieg and quickly get bog down by disorganization .

Out of all i would say Russia would hold up best if they were getting attacked. USA is the only country that has tanks that can fire and drive at the same time. USA has the most advanced military equipment. India will end up being the most powerful. Every 8 seconds 5 babies are born in india. Even without guns, that kind of manpower can be very powerful. If they atleast had that many javelines. More later...

Sorry not true, I was stationed in Korea and both sides are completly dug in it would be more like a WW2 style war but without your"blitzkrieg" approach. The North would most deffinatly start with a massive barrage of artie followed by a huge ground campaign involving armor, cavalry and spec ops.

Japan, being minded that they need to defend themselves and have the proper leadership, could kick everyone's butt within 2 years. Develop an arsenal of high tech nukes within a year.

Especially now when their economy is going down. Japan could really create some crazy tech like mechs.

IMO the US should give their military power to Japan so China and Japan fight each other.

US gives their power to Japan and Europe. US goes back to being independant. Win/Win. Europe can continue their wars like they did before US involvement.

Israel is a very small country, with only 7 million people, and a GDP of about 180 billion. It's got enough to stop anyone from invading it, but it could never afford to do much more than it is right now for very long.

Australia maintains a technologically advanced military, but it's one of the smallest in the world per capita, and Australia doesn't have that many people to begin with, at 21 million or so citizens.

If the constraints placed on Japan after the second world war are lifted, you'll see a Japanese armed forces build up that will scare the pants even off neighbouring China.

Japan should be allowed to develop a full fledged armed forces carriers and all, especially in the face of increasing Chinese aggression in the region(even against USN ships).

A Japan-America-Australia-South Korea alliance would counter growing Chinese influence in the wider region. As Japan's military expands to include aircraft carriers(they could do it faster then China imo, with US help), US involvement could be limited. Rather then having reliance on the US for carrier battle groups, multinational battle groups could be formed. American and Japanese carriers, escorted by Japanese, American and Australian and South Korean subs and surface ships. Australia is building air warfare destroyers and plans a new generation of submarines.
