MARYVILLE, Ill. (Map, News) - A gunman walked down the aisle of a church during a Sunday service and killed the pastor, then stabbed himself and slashed two other people as parishioners wrestled him to the ground, authorities said.

The man walked into the sprawling brick First Baptist Church in Maryville shortly after 8 a.m. and briefly spoke with The Rev. Fred Winters before pulling out a .45-caliber handgun and shooting Winters once in the chest, said Illinois State Police Master Trooper Ralph Timmins.

The gun jammed before the man could fire again, Timmins said. The attacker then pulled out a knife and injured himself before churchgoers subdued him. Two parishioners involved in the struggle also suffered knife wounds, Timmins said.

Makes you wonder what the title of the sermon was .....sorry, I couldn't resist thst. I don't know why it seems so shocking when it happens in a church, but to me it does. Sunday mornings are supposed to be times of peace and harmony and safety, and 99% of the time that is what happens when people choose to observe their religion.

I am pretty sure the shooter was deeply troubled and/or disturbed. Waiting for further reports.

Maybe the pastor slept with his wife?

Or maybe he was a traitor to his congregation and preaching Romans 13 (submit to government) under secret FEMA program and the guy didn't like that?

I think that this is just a sign of the times. It's sad. Thankfully, 99% of the time nothing happens at churches. Is it just me, or have there been a lot of church shootings in the US the past year or so?

I’m thinking this is another Monarch mind control victim carrying out his programming. I mean who stabs themselves and so weakens their abilities, and then continues the fight? IMO this is the PTB trying to get the churchgoing crowd on board with the most recent gun grabbing legislation.

The pastor used his Bible to deflect the first shot and it sprayed confetti everywhere. The remaining three shots hit him. The congregation thought it was a skit so they just sat there until the guy stabbed himself and two parishoners realized it wasn't a skit and jumped the guy.

Pathetic, guys. Really pathetic to just sit there and let your pastor bleed to death.

Did he have any association with the church itself? Where can we get more info? I'd really like to know what his motive was. Suicide? Revenge? It seems tragic.
