I'm sure it was Stanley Kubrick that was afraid of flying which is why "Full Metal Jacket" was filmed partly in London's docklands as opposed to overseas. Also he received death threats over" A Clockwork Orange " which was why it was withdrawn for many years.I really liked his films and agree "2001" was his finest hour.

One of his greatest creative talents was the idea of using visuals to define characters and plots instead of the script itself. He picked his projects in that regard...and I can't really think of anyone else who has done such a thing.
Believe it or not....my fav. is Eyes Wide Shut.

One of the best analysis about the critically-panned film and its sociological context of class definition, money vs. worth, and "anti-feminism".

Nothing beats the Shining. Amazing! The first part of full metal jacket at basic training is so dead on as well. That is his second most amazing film. 2001 third.
