The Attributes of God, What Are They?

What are the Attributes of God? How do they affect our lives?

There has been so much talk on ATS/BTS about God and his justice. Also some have a hate for the Creator and some are just confused. I thought it might be helpful if we were to discuss the Attributes of God and maybe bet a better understanding of who he is.

It is not possible to know that God is, without having knowledge as to who God is. God is not only a subject of faith, but also of knowledge.

If God could be fully known by our finite minds, he would be no god. We know that God has unlimited power to act, but how he does it we cannot know. We know he knows all things, but concerning his mode of knowing we do not understand. We know his love is boundless, but here also our knowledge is limited. We are the children of God. Therefore, in certain respects, we are like him and he is like us. We know God by our own natures which are in his image, but we also know him through the revelation of himself in the Scriptures. The manifestation of God in the person of his Son is the surest of all methods of knowing God. It was truly said be Jesus, "He that hath seen me hath seen the Father." Therefore, God is not only the subject of faith, but he is knowable as Person.

God is known to us be his attributes, and any true definition of him must be in terms of his attributes. God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth. However, it is not enough to merely define God. God comes to us as a person in the ultimate sense. He speaks and acts and in so doing he reveals himself as Lord. If this were not so we would now know him, we would at the most only know about him.

All the attributes that I came up with are grouped in two classes in agreement with the two aspects of the divine nature-the metaphysical and the moral.

There four main ones with the ones you mentioned underneath these as sub-qualities and essential derivatives of the main ones.

Love (Man faced cherub)

Justice (Lion faced cherub)

Power (Bull faced cherub)

Wisdom (Eagle faced cherub)

This is found in Ezekiel's vision of the heavenly realm

I find the Love & Justice combination to be the most fascinating, here is why. God's love and justice is allowing this evil system to keep going because he wants more to be saved and he wants more to be warned, his perfect love and justice demands it. As the bible says.

The Lord isn't slow to do what he promised, as some people think. Rather, he is patient for your sake. He doesn't want to destroy anyone but wants all people to have an opportunity to turn to him and change the way they think and act.

However as soon as Matthew 24:14(This Good News about the kingdom will be spread throughout the world as a testimony to all nations. Then the end will come) is fulfilled to God's satisfaction, not mans, his love and justice demands that this evil system ends.

And his wisdom enables him to do this at the perfect time that balances out both requirements.

And then we will his see his power unlike anything this earth has ever seen.

God looks for two things.

childlike and humility, the rest of virtues spring off from this.

hi all

Im delivering a message from Grandma (she is my mother)....she had intentions to add to this thread more thoughts but has been sick and not able to check in to ATS. Im sure she will be up and about soon...and I told her so far the thread has been added to beautifully! I think all the posts have added some great stuff.

On a side note, I believe that humility is the prime attribute. I know some dont agree with this but Ill leave it at that. I think we find Gods attributes in our most humbled truthful nature of ourselves.

Grandma is fighting some really serious infections right now having to be on IV antibiotics. It might not be new news to some of you that she has been sick for a long time....but prayers and thoughts of healing could really help her out I think. She is having a harder time fighting this infection then other times. Please send her love if you cross this posts of mine.

Miriam all I meant was that god said he was meak and humble of heart. If a soul runs on pride it cannot ascend to God.

You know how the world thinks they are too real, arrogant in their own works ect.....

What i meant was that God told several saints that humility is his favorite virtue in which everything else stems.

I will pass this on to her Simply (and I thank you)....I might of posted this in the nick of time...she went into the hospital this afternoon, like a hour ago. I dont ask for prayers often...but she has been through more then any person I know. She is also fighting fate because her father is dying who is 8 hours away from us. We were just talking today about if this infection would just clear up that she might have a chance to see him.

Some mountains need to be moved. Know any mountain movers?

I believe in the power of a name....her name is Pam and she needs a healing touch....to all of those who care to wish her well in your thoughts.

Hello Miriam,

Thank you for asking...yes, they do know what is wrong. Ill try to give you a short run down of it all.

Over the past few years, mom managed to brake both of her hips and 2 different times. The last time ended up with the doctors having to take out 6 inches of bone from her hip...the bone had gotten infected with staph due to her body not excepting the hardware they tried to replace her hip bone with. Being the wound was so deep and large, they left it as a 'open wound', which leaves her vulnerable to infections. She has had staph and cellulitous (sp?) infections so many times sense then we have lost count.

They run IV antibiotics through her about every other month due to these infections. Im afraid this time it may be in her blood....I have yet to get concrete confirmation of this though. They did detect that both the staph and cellulitous was back about 2 weeks ago, started her on IV antibiotics...and she is not feeling better like she usually does after starting the medicine. The doctor heard she was not feeling better yet and due to her ricky past and bad immune system, he ordered her back to the hospital. She so hates it there *frowns*.

I think its going to lift her spirits though, when I tell her others are keeping her close at heart.

Thank you for asking about Mom, I will tell her you asked about her. Right now I am so upset with Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance that Im thinking about making a video about how much they suck!!

Im going to use your asking as a excuse for me to rant. Please forgive....

As of Sunday, mom came down with Pneumonia on top of the sudimonis (sp? not sure of)infection they just now discovered in her wound on her leg. This type of infection is very serious and the antibiotics they use are through IV and can cause one to go into shock sometimes. If she goes into shock there is a shot that needs to be given to bring the patient up to pare. So Im thinking, surely she would stay at the hospital a while longer.

Well the insurance company told the doctor they would not pay for her to stay at the hospital any longer. So the doctor had no choice but to send her home, on the IV antibiotics, which we ourselves give her through her IV and if she goes into shock, we ourselves are to give her this shot she may need....on top of the Pneumonia not being totally gone.

Yesterday, after the antibiotics, it took my brother and I about 10 minutes to get her to come to. This isnt totally new to us, we have had to do this before when insurance refused to pay for her hospital stay after a certain amount of days....but her case is different then a normal person. She has no immune system, she is able to fall ill very fast....and I am enraged that they keep sending her home!! The doctor is also very upset and just doesnt know what else to do. It is very scary and I hope that she pulls out of this....as I know of course all do hope for this. She has been through so much, she is the strongest woman I know.

The doctor told them that the reasons she keeps having to come back to the hospital in the first place is because they keep sending her home before she is well enough to leave. I even though about making a thread about how frustrated I am with this insurance company. We are trying to keep her comfortable and currently trying to get a camera going on the web today so she can see her Father before he passes. I think this may help her in her emotional state with some closure to a hard situation that she is having trouble coping with. We hope to get the web cam going today so she can see her Dad.

I know she is in your thoughts....I appreciate your kind heart and positive thoughts that I know you are sending out for her!!

Like I said in the U2U I sent you after your last post....it was like a light burst forth from my computer when I read your hopes and wishes for Mom. It was truly heart felt and I felt it with all sincerity. It is times like this when true humbled souls will not let anything get in the way of wishing healing and love to others. You are a really neat soul Simply, I hope that in your trials of life I can one day bring you the same light you brought my family today.

She actually got up on the computer today, lets hope that strength is going to stay and keep building. Keep those vibes and energies coming....much thanks and love to you.

She has just really been on my heart lately and I guess I could feel her and you ever since you told us about this ...I do believe in prayer and as I said they are coming her way and your way ..I feel as if you and her are family to me ...I dont know why but we connected and I felt as if I had met family members ever since I met the both of you ,.....I love you both dearly ...(even when you and I disagree ) I believe you have a beautiful spirit just like your momma does and you are just as blessed as she is .... ...just know that God is with you all while your dealing with this ..no matter what happens just know that God is there and he loves you both ...

I resent the U2U....let me know if you get it or not....I think I misspelled the name the first time.

My parents raised us as always making others a part of our family. Many of my friends and my brothers friends call mom 'mom' and dad 'dad. I hope my home is as welcoming as what I grew up with.
