I'm in the outer east, Mooroolbark, and we certainly felt it here.
About 9pm the whole house shook for maybe 2 or 3 seconds.
Gave the yung'uns a scare! Didn't do much for us oldies either...

Earth tremor rocks metropolitan Melbourne

The centre of Melbourne has been rocked by an earth tremor, with worried residents reporting buildings shaking across the metropolitan area.

Householders from Reservoir, in the city's north, to Kew and Cheltenham, southeast of Melbourne, said they felt the tremor - which lasted a few seconds - shortly before 9pm (AEDT), on Friday.

A spokeswoman for Victoria Police also said there had been an earth tremor but said there were no reports of any damage immediately after the incident.

Further information and comment was being sought from Geoscience Australia, which monitors earthquake activity.

Yes many people predicted this days before it happened. Shame that even more people denied any connection.

I've felt an impending "natural disaster" all week, every time I wake up and go to sleep. Only thing is though, that the feeling is still there now, but it's even stronger. I hope there isn't another surprise. It feels like there is, but what would I know.

Dog has officially stopped barking, perhaps it's over.

Yes there was a thread about the dolphins, I linked it on page one.

OK well I'm off to get a Pizza from Crust - I swear those things are addictive, whatever they put in it, it's great, Prahran's best pizza place for sure.

A 4.7 quake isn't a big event. Nor is it a natural disaster.

Could it be the beginning of a larger quake? Maybe, we'll just have to wait and see.

What are the chances of an aftershock, and how long until we would get them.

Did anyone in the Melbourne City area feel that shaking ??? it was like a earthquake, our whole building shook like crazy with a weird rumbling sound in the distance ???

weeeird man that was freaky!!!

OK, so what's the big deal? Just a small 5.1 quake. Wait till you experience a 6.7 as I did and you'll go bonkers!

But the upside of such a quake is that if you're lying with your girlfriend on the couch then you needn't make any effort. A 6.7 knocker will do it for you!!

Cheers!

I thought I was imagining it.
My whole room shook I thought it was wind shaking the house.
Then I went outside and it was still not even a breeze.
There was a small earthquake here in 2001-2.
I remember it but this didn't feel like that.
Im glad someone else felt it I thought I was imagining things.

The point is, we don't get earthquakes here, ever - at least not in Victoria.

Also, TWO in one day in Australia?
