Why are there people who feel its neccessary to try to get others to believe THEIR beliefs.

If you are a Christian, thats wonderful,

If you are a Muslim, cool ,rock on with that

If you worship the Devil, (I rather run with the sinners than cry with the Saints, Sinners have much more fun) power to you

Keep all your beliefs to yourself, and don't try to "convert" others here,

Let's make a pact, I won't try to change your mind, You don't try to change mine

There are bigger problems in the world at the moment , than which Belief we will be joining when its over...PEACE OUT

yeah i have never understood why others try to push their beliefs onto people. why can't they just be happy with their own. I am a christian but i don't like to stereotype myself and say i am a certain denomination. I just believe what i believe. if you have a conversation with someone and it comes up and they come around to your way of thinking great...if not who really cares. you can't force it upon someone if you do it just pushes them further away. I know religions preach to pass the word on but i dont think it says to force it or pay for the consequences for not believing the same as i do. i have an open mind and i love to hear about other religions and sometimes i take a little bit from each one. i mean whose not to say that all the religions in the world were made to benefit each different kind of civilization and how they were living at the times and what was going on politically. i just can't understand why people get so angry over it and try to push their beliefs onto others. let people think for themselves and find their own answers. i agree with you 100%.

Everyone knows that noone gets into heaven except for the Mormons. So yes, to debate any other religion's validity is just a waste of time.

people can argue all day if they want or blow up at each other because of disagreements but they don't have to force their beliefs onto others. i guess i am saying its ok to debate it but i have seen some people that will not debate just one sided and wont hear them out because they think they are right and thats it nothing else to say or hear. i belief in my faith but i don't get mad or hate others because they do not believe the same. i just dont understand why some people get so angry. i guess it probably won't ever happen like you say

If I may be so blunt,,

It's only a natural human tendency to have others come to the same beliefs that you may have; in order to further reinforce one's own beliefs.

Deep inside, most people are actually unsure and insecure when it comes to their convictions, but if you can have a plethora of others believing whatever it is that you believe, then you'll probably feel more confident deep down.

And that just comes to show the rather pointlessness in having any absolute convictions. Because in the end, we just don't know.

For the most part, that's why I personally consider myself more of a gnostic than anything.

Edit to add: Oh by the way, there's no way in hell that this is gonna be "The VERY Last Religion Thread"

Because they are commanded (programmed ?) to do so...

Actually what you say has an element of truth based on the bible account of Jeremiah the Jewish Prophet, his job was to warn the nation of Israel about the impending doom of their society by the Babylonians, nobody listened to him and he was ridiculed, and he wanted to stop his warning work, but he just couldn't. Of course what he said came true when the Babylonians wiped out Jerusalem in 607 B.C.E.

Here is part of the account

Jeremiah 20:7-10 (New Living Translation)

Jeremiah’s Complaint

7 O Lord, you misled me,
and I allowed myself to be misled.
You are stronger than I am,
and you overpowered me.
Now I am mocked every day;
everyone laughs at me.
8 When I speak, the words burst out.
“Violence and destruction!” I shout.
So these messages from the Lord
have made me a household joke.
9 But if I say I’ll never mention the Lord
or speak in his name,
his word burns in my heart like a fire.
It’s like a fire in my bones!
I am worn out trying to hold it in!
I can’t do it!

10 I have heard the many rumors about me.
They call me “The Man Who Lives in Terror.”
They threaten, “If you say anything, we will report it.”
Even my old friends are watching me,
waiting for a fatal slip.
“He will trap himself,” they say,
“and then we will get our revenge on him.”

Some Christians can no doubt relate to Jeremiah's experience.

Riiiiiiight how about you just stay away from the threads that you know religion is going to come up. It is hard for some religious people to talk about their beliefs and not do it in a preaching manner. So don't like it step away or feel your ignore list.

Debate, argument and discussion brings about understanding. The things you think are bad are actually very very healthy and good.

You know whats bad? People who get offended at other people expressing their opinions. You just need to go ahead and get over yourself. You are not any better than anyone else, and being offended is just your ego saying you are too good for or above those you are offended by. If you are offended by other peoples opinions, discussions and arguments, then that is your own problem. It means you need to learn how to live and let live.

I'm sure you mean well, don't get me wrong. Just looking for a way of helping people get along, I get it. But if we live in a world were people don't discuss their beliefs or express their opinions because of people being offended, it's going to be a miserable world, and it's not even really something you can prevent or stop anyway. Easier to get, and a much brighter world is a world in which people don't get offended by what other people say and do, and just live and let live. That is doable.

So discuss it up, argue, debate and whatever. It's all good, it's part of expanding/growing and gaining understanding and wisdom. Be weary of those who want to just make them shut up or go away, because that is the person with issues, that is the person who truly can't handle other peoples opinions. Not those who only have disagreements in opinions.

Perhaps your association with the church as being of God is not only the source of your disagreement, but also the source of what blinds you from the truth.

Why let churches and other people define God for you? God doesn't need cash.

www.biblegateway.com...

8All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them.

9They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge.

10Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

11For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.

Think it's a coincidence these people ask for choice gold, and at the same time obviously lack understanding and wisdom?

Maybe the ones always asking for cash in the name of God aren't what they say they are, and aren't really representatives of God.

Maybe the hypocrisy is their own, and not what is really being told.

Oh...the irony of your opening statement.

That is rich and quite humorous. Thank you for making me laugh.

Understood.

Here is a tip:

Your silence in this post/thread would actually strengthen your position.

Think about it...

Could it be weather you believe it or not. That God tells us to?? God wants people to believe in him and in truth. God commands us to do so, so I would rather do what God wants than not to do what God want.

It appears to me that you are doing the very thing that you are speaking against. Why are you trying to get others to believe your belief that pushing beliefs on others is pointless?

Perhaps other words would be effective in enrolling others.

This is not to say I disagree with the core of your message. I have come to see the light when it comes to people pushing their religious beliefs on others. One may as well do this :bnghd:

In my view it's as all these people have a place they want to go, and they have a map. Many times, that map has been drawn by another who has copied it from someone else. Who copied it in the first place.

This map is so important to them, that all they see is the map. This map is just lines, maybe some words, and maybe some symbols. These all are just depictions of this place they want to go. The same place that everyone is going. Just think of what they are missing out on by adhering this copy of a copy of copy.

I say tear that map up, and walk your way. The way that is in your heart. This way you will know the hills, you will know the dales, you will know evil, and you will know good.

By all means, don't take my word. Maybe you were meant to see the light filtered through stained glass. One shall never know unless they be their true selves.

Good thread. I can roll with that (I've been guilty of trying to convert a few in my time though, only if they would listen and didn't tell me to take a hike).

Nevertheless, good thread.

This shows how much sense is in this forum.

This is a forum, religious one to share experiences and talk about God. I rarely see people come in here and try and convert others. Everything I seen is a sharing of what they have learned.

and besides all the person has to do if that did happen is say. no thanks. God said leave them alone and be by them selves.

" sinners have much more fun "

The problem is that we Christians do all the things you do, but we (include) our beggining which is God in our fun and don't leave him out.. So while those people have fun, it's shallow. Say I could play video games constantly, which I have. But all things we do to boast our enjoyment for a couple small moments at a time cannot fullfill us like God can.

so we include God in our fun and he is our happiness. Sinners without God don't have that. They have fun, and then go home, bored, wake up, do it again. Whereas a soul with God is always happy even when they are bored because God is their happiness. Alot of sinners always try to do things to be happy, but it's not internal but external.

I swear to God I see so little understanding in these forums, i wonder if understanding exist at all.

Btw alot of those bigger problems have to do with beliefs and communism and ideaology.

hahaha not funny. Those little smiley faces don't impress me.

Listen my friend is a sacristine, and he knows for a fact because he's a real just guy, that the money goes to repair buildings. Heck one roof repair cost about 200,000 dollars alone at our church/

I know many people that work with the church that can verify this for fact.

The good news is that Christ the saviour was born, that's it.

anyways God bless you guys.

peace.

Hold your taters a minute. You post such a thing in a 'Religion, Faith, and Theology' message board. Oh boy.

Would there even be such a board in existence if what you are attempting to get the readers to believe is possible?

Yet if one were to believe that men will remain dead unless they find out about drinking freely from the fountain of living waters and eating freely from the tree of life, then yes you are trying to change another's mind from the start.

Yeah I hate to say it but this place is for discussing any religions we like

Paganism, Christianity, Muslim...whatever ya like

That's why it is here...not to keep to one viewpoint but to be able to express and discuss and debate any spirituality

easiest advice to hear...hardest to follow..

here it is

"If it offends, or harms, or deeply upsets you, walk away"
