Bill Will Penalize Parents...

Initially I thought nothing of it when my wife mentioned this, but then I looked at the article. Parents will be penalized for "certain" content viewing online by their children.

DES MOINES, Iowa -- A new bill being considered in the Iowa Legislature could create new penalties for parents of children who are knowingly exposed to pornography.

Under House File 433, it would be illegal for a parent to know that their child was viewing indecent things online.

Please visit the link provided for the complete story.

Illegal for a parent to know? Is this legislation going to fine or jail me if I knew my 15 year old son was looking at a "Girls of the Israeli Defense Force" thread on a military photo forum? What if a friend forwards him a GIF of bare bouncing breasts? First hand, if you have teenagers and you keep tabs at what they look at online at all, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Many parents can't keep 24 hour observations of what their children are doing. I guess we are expected to be clairvoyant now too......

If they put this bill into effect they should be obligated to provide ways for parents to monitor their kid's internet usage.

Server\client networking, proxy servers, content filters.

If the government wants to penalize you for knowing they should at least provide some of the means to know.

Or at least some money for you to go and buy these kind of setups.

What are the kids doing on the internets anyway? Shouldn't they be working the fields? When I was their age...aaahhhh, forgetaboutit....

I'm getting pretty tired of the Government trying to come in and tell me what I need to do to raise my kids.

*Looks outside.*
**Notices no riots or protests in the streets.**
***Sighs***

And yet it appears that for now, everyone is still perfectly happy with the status quo. At least as far as I can tell.
