Nearly $4 a pack right now in Ohio, I buy a one pound bag of Kentucky's Best tobacco and roll my own. Right now it's $14.75 a bag, but it's going up too. TPTB are trying to make money on the backs of smokers, like they have done before.

It exposes another lie by Obama - his pledge that "no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase...not any of your taxes."

Actually he's KEEPING his PLEDGE to sign SCHIP into law. From Oct. 2008:

Tobacco Taxes

Industry insiders say a massive tobacco tax, such as the one proposed in the so-called SCHIP bill, is the most immediate threat to the cigar industry. This year only President Bush’s veto stopped what would have been a 256% increase in cigar taxes, meaning an increase of up to $3 per cigar. Obama clearly favors funding programs with tobacco taxes. He voted for the SCHIP cigar tax increase and has pledged to sign the bill into law. His campaign calls the senator “an ardent supporter of SCHIP.”

SCHIP was in his Health Care Plan

And Polifact is listing SCHIP as a Promise Kept

Overnight we went from 4.35 to 5.65

Non-smokers better get to thanking us smokers for taking so much of the tax burden off them.

I have rolled my own cigs for years now, because I felt the tax on manufactured cigs was usurious.
My neighborhood smoke shop owner just told me that the $1.20 box of tubes I bought would be like $15.00 in a few weeks..I did not believe him, and came home and did some verification..holy smokin' pork poop....IT IS TRUE!

www.freep.com...

The biggest federal tax increase hits roll-your-own tobacco, rising from $1.10 per pound to $24.78 per pound.

Ladies and gentelmen, that is a 2146% tax increase!< notice NO decimal point!
nothing like this has happened from the time of the Tea tax that led to the Boston tea party...You history buffs know what happened after that...Revolution. No taxation without representation.
I don't know about you, but my federal representation,(edit for T&C compliance) is umm..Lackluster, to put it mildly.

There are tens of thousands of hard working Americans that earn their living (and pay income taxes) In this industry. They stand to loose their jobs as well.

This will go in effect on April 1'st and is no April fools joke.

This is beyond shocking to me. And I am more than a little upset about this!

2146%....Even if the feds are trying to save health care costs...I don't dispute the health risks..I lost my dear sister to lung cancer at the age of 44...so dont preach to me about the risks...I dont care..
The point is,
they have no right to raise taxes on anything by 2146%....what the hell is going on? No tax increase on anyone that makes less than $250,000...Who are they trying to fool?

Rant off...
Anybody want to start a tobacco growers co-op in Ohio or Kentucky?

Peace

I just ordered 10 1 lb bags of tobacco for $119 and 10-250 count tubes pkgs. I hope that will last me awhile. This is a new thing for me, rolling my own. I'd stock up more on tobacco if I knew it would stay fresh.

Yes, that is what I am going to do. Buy enough now to last until I can get some crops going. And build a dryer and so-forth.
I do hope that you got a good rolling machine. I have worn out many, and have found the "Top-O-Matic" to be a durable machine. I have rolled many thousands of cigs with it, and it is still going strong.

I am planning to add an 1/8 acre to my garden for tobacco this year. I have to order from the seedman soon.

I think if you have one of those food saver vacuum packers, it would would work great for long term storage.

Peace

If you pack it fairly tightly into mason jars and seal them, it should last for years.

Cigarettes are easily a dollar more expensive at 7-11 then anywhere else.

Have you done any research on the tobacco seeds? I'm would love to grow my own, but I'd want something that taste similiar to what I already smoke. Menthol lights. I saw they have a menthol spray for chewing tobacco, but it doesn't say you can use it for smoking tobacco. Is the menthol in the filter?

I do have a vacuum sealer, and that's a great idea. I was afraid if I bought too much it would go stale by the time I wanted to use it and that would be a waste of money. I might get some more and seal it, and hope it stays fresh.

I have never grown tobacco before, time to do it!
So I will probably get a sample pack to start off with.

I smoke regular "kings" non-menthol. I did some quick checking on the link below and found what I think you would be looking for. About halfway down the page. A few items above is a "light enhancer". The filter tube you select also has some bearing on the lightness.

Flavor for home grown tobacco.
seedman.com...

TOB505 MENTHOL FLAVOR
Gives a smooth, refreshing menthol flavor very similar to popular menthol brands.

Hope this helps

Why Tax Ciggs, when you can tax alcohol which causes more deaths every year. you hear more about drunk driving, you don't have a choice to get hit by a drunk driver. You choose to smoke, drinking makes you not think straight and atleast with a cigg, you can still think straight and drive right. With a cigg, you only hurt yourself not others. With drinking you don't have the ability to choice who or what you hurt.

The menthol is in the filter not the tabbacco

Here in Edinburgh I smoke royals. (yea...so, shush)

Cheapest brand worth smoking IMO.

£5.57 a pack, converted thats $7.77 at exchange.

Nasty, but not as bad as the ROI or some other places....
'Premium' would equate to about $9-10.

Cigarettes are my drug of choice, don't really drink but I love to smoke. And it makes me sad to see the price of Camels rise steadily. Two years ago I could find a pack for 4.50 and now they are around 7.50. If this continues I don't know what I'm going to do. I feel like some unseen and devious entity is picking on me.

I wasn't sure how that worked, but I bought menthol light tobacco.
There is menthol in it. I bought regular filters. Then I went back
and got some menthol filters and with the menthol tobacco, it's just too
strong for me. If I grow my own, then I'll have to use the menthol
filters.

Have you guys ever sampled that tobacco? Some of that stuff is pretty nasty, after 10 pounds of it you'll be a nonsmoker.
