As hilarious as this is, they're not making stuff up.

This is one of those cases where truth is stranger than fiction.

Overactive Thyroids are commonly treated by destroying the thyroid through radio-active substances. Once the radiation has destroyed the thyroid, the patient then needs to go on medication that replaces the hormones a healthy thyroid would normally supply.

The radioactive material used for this treatment is eventually urinated out of the body.

A friend of mine had the same treatment done. Overactive thyroids can cause a number of unstable reactions in the patient... in my friends case, spontaneous aggressive tendencies.
