Ministers admitted privately that they were powerless to punish bankers who had contracts guaranteeing them payouts even though the bank is now 70 per cent owned by the taxpayer. Some are set to get five-figure sums.

It's absolutely disgusting that these people should get bonuses when there is an economic crisis of this magnitude, especially when those bonuses are being funded by the taxpayer.

Bonuses for failure?

My employer sets me unreasonable bonus targets that cannot possibly be met and even when they are met we get a measly "staff night out". Why should these people get anything at all when our economy is all but in ruins?

It's the rich looking after the rich.
