Years back we were assured that UFOs can’t be real because they were only ever seen by isolated farmers in Arkansas. Try telling that to the thousands of residents in the area around the town of Esquel in the mountainous Chubut province of Argentina: they witnessed no less that three fiery objects, that lit the sky, travel across their horizons last Saturday night (14-2-2009). The event stunned locals so much that amazed policemen stopped cars on the road and asked them if they too saw the object. The director of the local Astronomical observatory, Robert Figueroa, has confirmed the event and thinks that it might have been either meteors or satellites breaking up. Local head of police, Ramon Gotero, also confirmed that officers under his command had seen the ‘fireballs’ streak across the sky. The sight was witnessed by commuters, local fisherman and tourists. One witness, a Mr Juan Monges, who was driving at the time saw the object come from behind a truck that was moving towards him. ‘It lit the sky as if it was day’ he commented. The strangest thing about all of this is that this was not the first such event in the locality in recent days and preceding sightings, some with multiple witnesses, are more difficult to explain away with the meteor or satellite theory. A larger number of tourists visiting the Activity Centre at ‘La Hoya Mountain’ near Esquel have come forward saying that in the middle of the week they saw a luminous object just sitting in the sky above them for a couple of minutes before vanishing. A council worker, Horacio Bordon, driving between Esquel and Tecka claims he and his family saw four discs fly to the side of their vehicle. He managed to take a photo of the event which can be seen here. Something strange seems to be happening in the mountainous regions of Argentina and many believe UFO base hides somewhere in the area. Of course the objects seen on Saturday night might well have been meteors or breaking up satellites. Or perhaps these are just the latest versions of the old line about Arkansas farmers, now that it can no longer be used: Highly convincing explanations designed to conceal humans from the real events occurring in the skies above them.

Seems there is quite a bit going on in Argentina. Whilst the fireballs may have been meteors (but occurring multiple times recently is strange), the interesting part to the article is the link to the Argentinian paper, where a photo of the disk is shown:

Thoughts?

We are slowly becoming desensitized to common ufo sightings. 10 years ago a sighting with hundreds of witnesses including police occifers would have been big news, now, not so much.

I read a book in 1998 from a guy who allegedly worked on the remote viewing Stargate program for the CIA. He said the aliens were slowly spreading their presence through pop culture to desensitize us. When I was a kid, back in the 60's and 70's there were a few shows with aliens. The flinstones had the Great Kazoo. There was My Favorite Martian. Today, I ask my kids how many shows have aliens and they respond very matter of factly, "All of them."

The same guy who wrote the book said the aliens are in contact with our governments and that disclosure is going to happen no matter what. Our governments have a choice to let us know what's up or the aliens are going to to it for them and let the pitch forks and torches come out when the citizens find out how much has been withheld.

What I can't believe is how quickly I have become desensitized. I have been a "ufo nut job" for twenty years. Before the Internet existed, I would wait at the news stand for the latest copy of the Fortian Times and pray the latest issue had a story about UFOs, aliens, etc.

Look how long it has taken to get a reply to your post. Just a couple of years ago, you would have had 50 posts by now. Your post is just another low detail cellphone picture and nobody gives a crap. Get ready, the time is near.

Last night (Sunday Feb, 22, 2009) the UFO issue was discussed on a South African TV Programme - "Carte Blanche". This program is renowned for factual investigative content and is very objective and trustworthy in its reporting. If you say to people in South Africa that you saw it on "Carte Blanche", they will not query the validity of the reporting.

What's interesting is that the same lights on the same day (Feb, 14, 2009) as reported in this thread, was seen in Johannesburg South Africa - a highly populated area.

I wonder if this is a coincidence.

So true, however I don't think there are more sightings than there were twenty years-just more communications and means of capturing images.

The *yawn* response to most sightings these days could be to do with the turbulent times we are living in. Hierarchical needs such as water, food, security take precedence over esoteric subjects such as aliens. Perhaps when the world stops collapsing financially, there will be more time to smell the roses and wax lyrical about alien life.

Some may say that the alien disclosure is the most important topic of our times. But is it really? Are they going to save us from ourselves? Perhaps not...

That's odd, I was in Argentina on that very same day on vacation and visiting family. Heard absolutely nothing, but I was in Buenos Aires which is their biggest city in capital, so that could make sense. But we were also in Uruguay and Brazil in smaller towns but still nothing. Kind'of weird I didn't hear even a smidge about it.

I think people have had enough of "just another sighting". We all have heard it before. What people are waiting for is disclosure.

Either the Gov comes forward and admits the whole thing.
OR the Aliens come forward once and for all.

The game of hide and seek is getting boring.
