Wow, so when someone trys to make an unpopular point, no matter if I am right or wrong. Instead of trying to see the different sides and reasoning of it you resort to suggestions of drug use and insults.

This is a sure way to get moved to the mud pit.

I like your analogy, lets stick with it. God is our father we are his children. He is teaching us that there are consequences for our actions and we are will be held solely responsible for the things we do on this earth. Its a good lesson, a lesson any good father would teach his child.

No, the bible is a record of God. We can find universal truths throughout the Bible, the bible and its stories speak to the human condition, because it speaks of mans weaknesses, pride, desires, lust and these things are timeless because its apart of being human. Faith is our belief that we are children of God and that the bible is his true record. Anyone can see the universal truths in the bible, not just people of faith.

Is there a reason this should stay in WoT and not be moved to BTS?
I'm not really seeing any WoT stuff here.

By the way,
watch the name calling and personal insults.
Not naming names. Just keep that in mind.

Ok so let me get this right. You believe some all powerful being in space is your father and it's ok for him to murder people in cold blood because "it's a good lesson." (and I'm supposedly on drugs riiiight.)

There are NO universal truths in the bible. Yes some of the stories in the bible speak to the human condition that's why it's so popular. If you believe that the bible is a true record than you have a problem with reality. Not to say "some" of the events aren't true but the type of reasoning you would have to go through to get to the point where you call the whole book true can't be identified by any term other than brainwashing.

It's quite possible Jesus was a freedom fighter (or terrorist if you prefer that word). The Bible clearly states that the Messiah would appear to save Israel from her foes and unite her people.
If Jesus did see himself as the Messiah and the King of the Jews he would have probably opposed the Roman occupiers.

There are a couple of contradictory pieces of evidence in the NT about this subject though. Jesus states that he has come "not to bring peace, but to bring the sword". This would seem to point to either his inciting an uprising or planning to take part in one. We do know that Jesus was meant to be a great orrator. We do know that he had a following and we do know that he was constantly being hunted for by ther Roman authorities and the Jewish Sanhedrin after his sermons.

But then you have the "Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's" statement. This one would seem to infer that Jesus was not interested in wordly politics.

But the Romans did crucify Jesus. And this was a punishment normally reserved only for those who had transgressed against the Empire.
Personally, I am swayed by the freedom fighter argument. I see Jesus as a symbolic story and if there was a literal one I don't think it was exactly parallel to the one that Christianity was based on.

I believe Jesus the man was different to Jesus the holy figure.

Now that we're wayyy off topic (religion and terrorism being directly connected) the mods should probably move this to some where that the religious fanatics hang out so they don't have to go to WoT to say how great their "god" is.

I don't see why it is such an outrageous statement.
I'll admit that the thread starter's plaigarising was poor showing but I've read plenty that puts the same view - and not just Islamic or anti Christian material. Some of it is academic work based on such literature as the Dead Sea Scrolls.

I've read works which refer to the Scrolls and their connection to Jesus through the Essenes which does seem to give a very sound argument. Most people have always perceived the Essenes to be pacifists but there is some evidence within the Scrolls to point to them being a pretty radical group. If Jesus was an Essene, then maybe it is possible that he was involved in a fight for Israel's freedom from oppression by the Roman occupiers.

In my opinion there has to be a distinction made between the literal, historical figure and the spiritual, symbolic figure. The Bible itself leaves so much open to conjecture about Jesus' every day life, his background and his politics whilst giving tantalising clues that lead in all sorts of different directions.

I also find it unthinkable that a rabbi would not have discussed politics with his followers or given speeches on the subject. We know that other Jewish rabbis were very vocal on the subject - 99% of them appeasing to their Roman masters. Maybe Jesus was the 1% who stood up for his people.

I don't see this as an insult to Jesus. If anything it cuts him as a more heroic figure.

Terrorism has been around a helluva lot longer than the Jesuits - ever since two cavemen banded together to get meat from their neighbours without paying.
