Folks there was just a thread on Breaking News about an inflammatory statement made by Rush Limbaugh.

It disappeared, and I went looking for it in all the political forums but didn't see where it could have been moved to...

Mods? Any ideas?

Probably went to the same place the article about the Marijuana industry in Canada. It was a video called The Union: the business behind getting high and it lasted a couple of hours before someone removed it.

Could have gone to BTS somewhere, it doesn't sound breaking news worthy. Also depending on the nature of discourse in the thread, it could have been trashed.

The nature of this site is to be as mainstream as possible while staying just outside of the mainstream. That means that when faced with the choice between the Almighty Truth vs the Almighty Dollar, you can guess which will win every time. Although the two aren't always mutually exclusive, you'll often hear 'This is a BUSINESS' before all else. If there's a chance that your post will reduce net traffic, you can bet that you'll be silenced before any bottom line damage can be done.

Welcome to ATS (aka McConspiracy), I'm lovin' it!.

(Not sure if any of this post violates the T&C outside of the "administrator's discretion clause, but we'll see.)

I saw that late last night....

I searched it, and get the ATS Screen of Death.

Oh, well.

Am I?

Then lets see.....
Q: Why does any drug related thread get trashed?
A: Because NetNanny and other software packages will deny access to sites that mention drugs and such. That means less net traffic and less revenue

Yay or Nay?

A lot of them don't get trashed. They get moved to RATS.

Or because drug related threads are against T&C and therefore can't be discussed on the main boards.

Feel free to sign up for RATS and discuss drugs to your hearts content though.

Any other questions just let me know.

RATS exists to maintain the public image of ATS, correct? Is RATS not but a means of maintaining the bottom line?

Public image? How do you draw that conclusion?

The "Really Above Top Secret" forum is a private forum created as a means for ATS members to discuss topics they want to keep hidden from search engine spiders.

What does that have to do with a "bottom line?"

RATS is a way to keep search engines from finding certain topics that certain people are discussing.

Not a bad idea....

You know what, you're absolutely right.

ATS is a giant conspiracy against the members. (who coincidentally have the best environment for civil discourse and intelligent research on the internet)

It's all a money making scam!

Then it serves multiple purposes. Yes, users can go to RATS to discuss matters that they don't want regular online users to google, but they can also go to RATS to discuss borderline illegal topics, such as drug use (without citing personal use), with less of a chance of it being dumped.

That cycles back to the NetNanny thing.

I love it!

citing the extreme as a way of dismissing the point!

ATS is not a conspiracy against its members. And it is no more of a moneymaking scam than any other business. But, as members we must remember the priority of any business is capital. If that is threatened, then the business owners will take the necessary measures to minimize loss.

I won't speak for Bill or any of the other owners, but I believe the main priority of ATS is it's membership, not it's capital.

This is evident in the many things we are provided that other similar communities could only dream of. The level of service towards we the members at ATS is unparalleled anywhere else.

The capital that follows is surely welcome, but not the main goal....

...in my opinion.
