Here's an idea to consider...



...a model mamod steam engine that spins a stepper-motor to generate enough power (24VDC+ registering on the multimeter without load in the clip) to recharge laptop/torch batteries etc

If you dispensed with the boiler assembly and ran the engine on compressed air instead, with a universal tyre adapter connection, then you could feasibly use the compressed air from a vehicle tyre to give batteries enough of a charge-boost

Thanks for all the links i'll go and look at them now,

I can't believe i didn't mention steam engines but yeah they're now firmly on the list!

Also i remember reading that lighting can be used to free mass amounts of hydrogen, although dangerous if done on top of a hill away from town it could be ok, anyone know anything about this or any other way of storing power from lightning?

edit to add: those ridge houses in rubberbarrons link ($50home) are brilliant, that style combined with hundertwasser (however you spell his name) style tree tenants and the heat exchanger style tech from the passively heated homes and you've almost eliminated your heating, cooling, air moving requirements -plus it would be a really nice place to live.
