Australia Wildfires "Definitely arson"

www.canada.com

MELBOURNE — Arsonists lit an Australian wildfire that killed more than 20 people and possibly started a blaze that razed a town in which up to 100 people are feared to have died, police said Thursday.

At least 181 people died as a swarm of wildfires raced across the southeast state of Victoria during a heatwave last weekend and the toll is expected to rise as more bodies are found in charred homes and villages.

"We're sure that the fire in Churchill was deliberately lit," state Police Commissioner Christine Nixon told Nine Network television, referring to a fire in which 21 people died.

God, this is scary. I had little doubt in my mind that, indeed, some of these fires were deliberatly set off, my question is whether or not it was an extremist group who did it.
That much is not known, but already the Daily Mail is jumping and calling it just that. God I hate that newspaper.
I mean, it must send the message that wildfires make good weapons.I'm interested to see what you think of this latest news; I don't exepect this news to be called "old" because it was just realised an hour ago.

I had heard that they were investigating one of the many
fires as possible arson. Now it seems confirmed. Thus far there is no evidence to point towards terrorists and we will have to wait and see how things develop. Personally I don't think it is terrorists. It doesn't make sense. But then again ANY kind of arson doesn't make sense to me. I have a cousin over there that I haven't heard from since the fires began. I have no idea if their house is intact or if they made it out OK. To me it seems more likely that terrorists would hit the Sidney Opera House as a major national symbol.

Heaps of these fires are the work of arsonists, it has nothing to do with terrorists. At least half of the fires that start in Australia every year are caused by arson.

Terapin - I cannot put myself in the same mindset as someone who would start a fire, for one I am an avid animal love and to kill thousands upon thousands of animals, plus destroying human life and lives, its unconscionable.

I love it how today in the world, if you can't find out who did it, blame terrorists.

In these economic hardtimes i believe us taxpayers should be spared the costs of trials & 3hots & a cot for thescum that are found to have deliberately started any of these bushfires(please.....not wildfires)& release them to the public for "behavior modification".

Also for anyone outside of gods country you can ring Australian Red Cross hotline on +61-3-9328-3716.

Please,expect some delays.

Also, big thanks to Red Cross & other vols. You people are sheer briliant in all the work you do.
