hey folks, I've been away for quite a while due to moving job and house, an no net connection.

I just wanted to ask, my points were no where near what they are now when i went off-line, I've only posted a couple of times in last few days, no applause, no responses to older threads ect. but my points have went up by a few hundred on ats and down to -200 on bts???? I'm not really a points junkie so have never really took notice before, but I'm a bit baffled by how i can get points without being here

any answers gratefully received( especially if i get points for them lol, joke)

You receive points for each response to any threads you've started,
whether you're here or not.

Hope this helps.

I don't have threads with that many replies lol, but what about the minus on BTS,

is there a thread that explains what points you receive, for what and how many ect.? just interested as i just read something and some folks seem to be totally obsessed with getting as many points as possible.

I think you may need to open a 12 step forum to help these poor souls out lol.

LOL, 12-step, that was good!

Yeah, points were a mystery to me at first, but I just kept pluggin away on
topics that interested me, and they've built up.

One thing's for sure; us members have no control, it's up to the site mods & administrators to award them.

If you do a "Point System" search, you'll get back tons of threads discussing how it works... just read through some, and most likely you'll find good answers.

(By the way- board business & questions earns NO points), so I'm replying on my own dime; so to speak!!!

I know the mods can bonus you an "APPLAUSE", worth 500 points! Usually for a well-composed, thoughtful, courteous, respectful, or informative post, at their discretion...

Some threads earn only one point per post; others 10! Replies to your posts earn 20, 25, or sometimes 50, I think...don't quote me, I'm still twelve-stepping!!!

It's strange you should mention it, but I've been a member for quite a while, and seem to have jumped from 15,000 to 21,000 points practically overnight.

Maybe I'm posting a lot more than I think.

You have received four applauds by staff that's where you additional points have come from

The negative BTS points are likely resultant from when we integrated PTS back into BTS and eliminated the PTS points...there was some shuffling going on there...

I see it has been reverted back to the positive side...

The "mystery" behind negative BTS or ATS points is pretty mundane.

Whenever a Member "buys" something in the ATS "member store" i.e. Custom Title, Avatar, background color, etc... If they are not paying attention to "which account to deduct the points from" (ATS or BTS) they can end up with a negative points total in one or the other.

For example... If you "purchase" something that "costs" 700 points AND you leave the "deduct points from" on the default of "both" (ATS and BTS points) AND you only have 200 BTS points you will end up with a -150 BTS points total because the system equally "splits" the payment between BOTH points accounts (ATS and BTS) equally.

So, since you spent 700 points, left the "deduct from" on the default "both" accounts, the system pulls 350 points from your ATS points account and 350 from your BTS points account. Since you only had 200 BTS points, in this example, that leaves a deficit of 150 points in your BTS points account which will appear as -150 BTS Points.

Kind of like "over draft protection" at the bank I guess .

Hey at least ATS doesn't allow you to go over your overdraft

The negative thing really bothers me, I don't know why.

Is there any way that I can return my BTS points back to zero or more through the ATS store? .. sorta like giving my ATS points to the BTS points?

Edit to add; Oh one more thing, I've always noticed the line beneath the numbers, some people have more points than others but sometimes the line appears shorter than the others with less points? .. am I making any sense here?

The 'line length' is based off of post count- not point total. 10,000 posts will give you 1 full top line. Once you get past 10,000 posts, the bottom status bar will appear and will also reach full size once you hit 20,000 posts. Then that is the limit. Then the color of the bar changes in relation to your point count/applause ratio and your status as either a regular member or staff.

That's quite a long-term and intricate system set up here at ATS.

10,000 posts? .. let's just see if I can make it to 1000 before I get banned
