I was once relayed a story similar to this. In fact, I have a few to share.
I believe that all of these stories have significant truths to them.

A woman told me this story...her nephew stayed in her home. He was a freemason. He had a wooden freemason insignia hanging on the back of his room door that had been a gift.

One night, a small horde of shadows came from the wooden plaque. She described them much like the common description of gray aliens: smallish, gray skin, small mouth, slits for nose, large dark eyes, etc. These figures held her down in her bed while she could hear more of them tormenting her nephew.

I was a young teenager when I heard this story, so I can't remember more. I remember her saying that the man burned the insignia.

-----------------------------------

When my brother was young, he had quite the collection of KISS records. This was back in the late 60's to early 70's. He kept said records in the floor of his closet. He ALWAYS wanted his closet door closed when he went to bed. One night he forgot to close the door and he described feeling a "presence" from inside. The next morning, he threw out ALL of his KISS records. The incident never repeated.

-----------------------------------

When I was about 5 years old. I woke suddenly in the middle of the night. I saw "something" in my room. It was small...smaller than I at age 5. The best way that I can describe it is that in my memory, it had the appearance of a gargoyle. It moved away as if to hide from me. When I became hysterical and called for my parents. It disappeared as soon as they turned on the light. It has never happened again.

-----------------------------------

A family friend woke in the middle of the night to a shadowy figure standing over her. When she woke her husband, he lunged at the figure to grab thin air.

------------------------------------

Personally, I believe that all of these encounters were with spirits of evil intent rather than aliens and the like. Those are my stories. Thanks for reading.

Ah your first sleep paralysis episode. Yes, it can be scary. There are worse things that can happen in the unknown though.....

I myself have had this happen quite a number of times, although Ive only seen shadow people a couple times. Some say that dark entities are created by our own fear. True or not I cant say but if you can have sleep paralysis you might also be able to astral travel, and I hear that's tons of fun.

All I can say is don't worry about it. It feels whack but its safe

just because doctors have a label for something like 'sleep paralysis' and say its a 'medical condition' doesnt mean they actually understand it or they can actually prove that its not an external/interdimensional/spiritual or alien phenomena. they are just trying to sound like they do. so you will say, oh, that's sleep paralysis, nothing to worry about. instead of thinking for yourself of what it might be or what it appears to you to be.

we live in a culture that's constantly spoon fed by so called experts and no one uses their own brains anymore. they are also not prepared to listen unless someone has phd after their name..academic is full of egos, half the time i wonder how much we really do know about anything.

oh we have a label for that - our society is so advanced, we understand everything, ...

rubbish.

Ok, it's probably sleep paralysis. Because you're sort of in a 'sleep state' still. Your mind has woken up before your body has. When you're asleep your body paralyzes itself so you don't act out your dream and hurt yourself. Now because you're... well, paralyzed. You're freaking out, this is where the power of the mind comes to play and you start hallucinating your worst fears, these come to 'life' because of the state you're in. Trust me, you'll be fine. What made this seem even more like sleep paralysis is you said you woke up on your back, sleep on your side in future.

Good luck.

Hello everyone, I am new to the website. I'm 27 years old and have recently moved home at the beginning of Feb 09, I will like to tell you of my experience like this that I had, the last week in Feb when asleep I suddenly woke in the early hours of the morning, I was lying on my left side and my eyes were searching the darkened room because I felt a presence. In the corner of the room I could see shadowy images which formed into a figure just standing their watching me. I then began to think to myself what the hell is that? I tried to move but could not, no matter how much I tried, my fiancee was lying next to me sleeping. I could only move my eyes, still watching this shadowy figure it FLEW towards me at a very fast speed which made me shut my eyes and it was although I began to rock slightly in the bed. (DID IT BOUNCE OFF ME?) when I opened my eyes again, it was back in the corner and then it had a second attempt to fly toward me, again I shut my eyes and then when I opened them again it was back in the corner watching me and I FELT it was getting ANGRY, I dont know how but I began screaming at the top of my Voice my fiancee's name (obviously shouting for help to get me out of their as I could feel her presence next to me). It then took a third fly towards me at that point i closed my eyes again and then felt my Fiancees hand touch me on my right arm. The physical sensation of the touch began bringing me back to reality and out of whatever or wherever I was. Even after I woke up and heard my Fiancee asking me if I was alright it took me around 5 secs to move again but I felt extremely HEAVY. My fiancee said she thought she heard me screaming her name but my mouth must have been closed as she said it was a mumble. She then asked me what had happened and I didnt really want to tell her but I am honest so I told her and she said to me thanks very much for freaking her out.

This is the first and only time that I have experienced this and for informational purposes only I was wearing a psychic power runic pendant with an amethyst crystal in it which is a protection crystal... Was the shadow figure trying to get in my body and the crystal pendant have some sort of psychic shield around me? or am I bonkers?

I cannot be Bonkers because when I told my father about my experience he then researched it and ended up emailing me this link with other people experiencing the same sort of thing as I did.

To be honest when I was a young teen I had 2 experiences of seeing the SAME ghost twice within a month and I was extremely freaked out. It was a glowing white facial image as it peered round at me from garages not far from each on both occasions, It had NO eyes/nose/mouth or whatever but I knew and felt that it was looking right at me. could never explain that either.

Please let me know what anyone thinks.

Thank you for being patient while reading this.

A few years back I had the classic old hag experience. I was in a kinda hazy state I perceived my eyes where open, the room was dimly lit.
Something gained entry at the main door of the apartment, I could not move. As the intruder gradually came closer to the door way of my bed room, I began to sense a threat and felt fear. When it arrived at the door way, it stood there for a few moments, almost as if relishing my fear.
The shadowy entity than gradually came closer to me , I sensed it right by my face, it spoke. "I will kill you !" At this point I felt as helpless as a child and started to whimper , "leave me alone. " It than meticulous climbed onto my chest. Lets just say I'm not the religious type, but I started to recite the our father thing , than I awoke . Was it just a dream or something else, I don't think I'll ever know for sure .

Thanks for your reply superdebz, I thought it may have been sleep paralysis but do you not have to be lying on your back or front for that one, as EXPERTS tell those who have the 'condition' to try and fall asleep on their SIDE. 'I was on my left side when this happened', (27 years almost 28 and its my 1st experience, do I have the 'condition' sleep paralysis?, I was able to rock slightly and also scream at the top of my voice with my mouth moving) If it was sleep paralysis then the EXPERTS are needing to update the causes of it (ANY BODY POSITION CAN RESULT IN SLEEP PARALYSIS), anyhow I hope it doesnt happen again as its kinda freaky.

Take care

OK this has been very unexpected and I am still shaking from something which happened to me in the early hours of the morning. I can't tell you what time it was but I woke up after I would estimate a few hours sleep. I wake up, I am on my back and can't move anything except my eyes. The room is eerily silent with no one else in the house, the wind outside could not even be heard (we have strong winds in the UK this time of year).

After absorbing this very strange atmosphere I notice something moves from the corner of the room. It was like the dark shadows in the corner of my room moves themselves, very very slowly. The minute I saw this coming a sense of dread filled me, I can't really explain it but the feeling was there. After I would estimate a minute I noticed the shadows formed the shape of a person, at least I think it is. It is a dark figure and I can't see any details but his upper body stood upright and is as if he's facing me. I was full of fear, trying desperately to move but feel like I've been strapped to my bed but I can't move. I tried to shout or whisper, but I can't. I move my eyes away from this figure long enough to think I've imagined it, but when I move my eyes back he is moving closer, and closer.

In the final moments I felt like I was going to see the face of this person, and for reasons I'm not sure I didn't want to see it. I was covered in sweat. What happened next I wasn't sure, but I felt I woke up again and nothing was there. I could move and checked the room and the rest of the house at 4.20am. Nothing.

What the hell just happened?

A similiar experience happened to me around 1 month ago but the shadowy figure tried to fly into me 3 times before I could scream my GF's name who then woke me up, my full story is a few posts back , I dont think its sleep paralysis reason being I was lying on my side and I dont know exactly what it is, as long as we are both ok after it

Its very rare to have a dream/nightmare that your actually still in your bedroom, The shadowy figure that I seen did not speak to me so what you experienced is new. I have absolutely no idea what you have experienced but isnt it weird that no matter how much anti religious people are, when the going gets tough you either look up to the sky and say PLEASE GOD or begin reciting the prayer..

I hope it doesnt happen again to you,
Take Care

I used to suffer from night terrors regularly from child-hood until about 3~ years ago. So that was 20+ years of what I thought was psychic attack.
My religious parents thought it was possesion or a demon trying to claim me. They had the house blessed by a priest, to no avail. It happened whether I prayed or not. Nothing seemed to help.

Then a few years ago I read about sleep paralysis and how night-terrors are related. The next time I had an episode I thought "This is not real" and calmly waited. The percieved menace and what I thought was a demon or some other malignant spirit then evaporated.

I have had 2 episodes since then, and each time I have just thought "this is not real" and regained conscious control of my body and was completely awake in moments. And in the last 2 encounters, the feeling of dread and a dark presence was absent.

In my case at least, it was sleep paralysis and I learned to control it. The whole night-hag aspect was just a product of having been influenced by my parents and not knowing that it was a mundane aspect of our sleeping lives rather than a spiritual encounter.

I believe it was a case of making my own reality. And now that I know differently, I don't suffer from the same fear and panic when it happens.

I suggest you remain calm next time it happens, and repeat in your thoughts "This is not real, I will wake up shortly".

Good answer thinkmore. I'm glad you can now control your condition.

I would like to think that it was an episode of sleep paralysis from just being stressed from moving, that way I can put my feet up and take a chill pill?

However isnt it a bit strange that every sleep paralysis episode that some people experience, we all have the same imagery of a dark shadowy figure? why is it a dark shadowy figure? why did it try and fly into me and bounce off me 3 times? why do other people just see a dark figure standing their just looking at them filling their emotion with fear? why do other people say that the dark figure says to them that 'it will kill them' as in a previous post?

Do we all have the same inner fear? a fear of a dark shadowy figure?

Thanks for your reply

I have no answer as to why we all see the same thing. It could honestly be our imaginations, or maybe it could be a spiritual presence. I cannot say for other people, but as I have stated, for me it was just a case of sleep paralysis.

If it happens to you again, just remain calm and believe your own words when you say "This is not real."
Then again, it may have been spiritual in nature, but my BELIEF that it is not real and that I am in no danger protects me. Who knows? The imagination is a powerful thing.

In either case, both when I suffered from night terrors and now that I am convinced that it is just a normal phenomenon it appeared that I was responsible for any feelings of fear or calm.

Before I knew any better, I thought it was an evil entity. Now that I know it was just sleep paralysis I am perfectly fine. No panic, no fear. No entity. Just calm.

Hope this helps you.

This is a fabulous thread which relates to your experience:
Sleep Paralysis: I just woke up with a Demon atop my bed
It looks at and compares experiences, as well as why this sleep paralysis happens and exactly what it could be.

I don't know what to think on the sleep paralysis issue. To me it seems entirely plausible that it is just a reaction of the brain in respondence to a person waking up in the middle of the REM state. But something just doesn't seem right to me.. all of these experiences sound otherworldly in a way. . .
