What would you do if??

If you woke up tomorrow and your countrys dollar collapsed?
Bank machines don't work and store owners refuse to open or accept money??
You know people are going to start panicking.
What would you do??
To make it interesting lets say that this was like a depression that lasted a yr or so.

This is just a hypothetical question but I would love to hear your thoughts.

In those kind of situations, I would rather stay calm and grow food in my garden and live off it for some time until the situation clears up.

What more do you think can be done?

What would I do if the dollar collapsed entirely?

I would remain calm, sort out the vast stock I have of reserve food and water, and just keep on living day by day until things got worked out.

No reason to go nuts or wild or panic. People just need to be prepared.

I'd fill my bathtub with water, do an inventory on my food and water supplies, check my bug out bag, and probably let my cat outside (I do that anyway). After that I will keep my radio on and to be honest, yes, go to ATS and see what my fellow Americans and conspiracy bretheren are saying. After a quick glance at the website, contact my dad, my friends, and discuss a place to meet in a day or two.

Of course keeping calm while doing all of this, not like I didn't see it ahead of time. Then before so called meeting, check my weapons and ammo, put the plates in my combat vest, and put head out the door. I'll then wait it out with my friends to see what happens. I don't think I would want to stay at home for FEMA "relief aid".

If it looks like no food will be coming, and we are looking at
something worse than the great depression I'd do the following.

I'd grab my bugout bag, my items of self defense, and what little
gear that is not already at the bug out location.

I'd try calling my friends if the lines aren't busy, but if they are
we are all suppose to meet at the location anyways.

I'd take the back roads out of town and avoid anything that looks
strange along the way.

Around 3/4 mark pull the battery out of my cell phone.

Leave the vehicle at least one mile from the location,
and conceal it in brush of possible.

If the location has been acquired by squatters go to location B
nearby, wait for backup to arrive, and then try to reason with
the squatters if we think we are the superior force.

If we are stuck at location B, make trip to check on one of the
storage caches nearby.

Once at the retreat I'd turn on the perimeter, setup the can line,
and take the best field of fire pillbox and stay well hidden.

When ppl I know show up, turn off the perimeter and ask them
the password if they use the wrong one something is wrong,
and they can't tell me.

Wash rinse repeat til they are all there, and go out and cover tracks
between new arrivals if there is no activity seen via binoculars.

If it is warm weather germinate then plant white amaranth in a
scattered natural looking layout around the area.

If no nearby activity set a small amount of snares, increase if no
game is caught, and cook with solar oven.

Setup small wind generator at night, bring in during day.

Keep a cold camp unless it is a life or death matter.

Stay in the semi-underground pillboxes when its very cold.

Use hand crank radio to keep track of news, try to use as little
of long term stored food as possible.

Hope that I wake up the next day and it is all a bad nightmare.

Well i always have food for a week in my fridge.

Besides that i have rice water and a burner and a lot of other stuff. I also have so i can shear with others just in case others dont have anything. I also have soil in bags in the basement just in case i have to plan for a longer time. I can make my whole basement into a garden if needed. I also have soil and seeds to shear with others. So they dont have to worry.

If i am to keep calm my neighbors need to keep calm to. And the only way i am going to do that is to help them.

If you isolate your self. That means you have something to hide. And that gets people interested. And that could mean anything but relaxing time while you wait for better days.

If the dollar collapsed tomorrow I'd wait to see what the pound did.

Joking aside, I have some food reserves. Some is known about, some is not. Some is safe, some is not. I have access to some seed. I would guage the situation in the first 24 hours after which I would probably bug-out until things either settled or I did elsewhere.

Ex_Msiltech seems to have it sll sorted...and I think he is spot on. Just like you have a plan for an escape in your head should a fire occur in your house,,this needs some planning too. You cant do this sort of thing on your own because its too dangerous. You might think "oh I have enough food for a few weeks" but what if your unwelcome neighbours decide to see if you have any? People should group together..even towns group together and have a bigger plan. Passwords etc are a good idea.

Contact the Northern Alliance survivalists I know and get an RV set up.
Meet up for the RV and check all the food we've catched is good, set up an ops area and watch the news broadcasts.
If it all fixes itself then we have a good chuckle and return to our normal lives again.
If not it's time to assemble the weapons and play it by ear...

I have my stockpile as well and a plan with a couple others that would keep us alive for a few yrs if need be.
Its good to see people have stocked up while they can.
Theres alot of people who still think this could NEVER happen.
The only part I can't be sure of are the reactions of those people.

Mis El does have a very good plan set up.

However, its very easy for all of us to type away that we will remain calm and watch the world burn. Reality could be much different.

Banks worldwide shut their doors at the same time, mass panic in the streets, people flooding the roadways, hysteria. What if your kid is in school on the other side of town? If an angry mob decides your house is first on the list because they heard you have gold in your safe? If you are in the hospital?

To state on here what I, or anyone else will do is next to impossible. People react strangely to strange situations. All we can do is prepare our body and minds as much as we can here and now, and hope that when the time comes we react how we have planned and stockpiled for.

Thanks for the props, my biggest fear of staying near a major city
is fires breaking out many houses away and the wind blowing them
towards mine over time.

You got to sleep some time, no man is an island, and your guns will
do you no good against a wild fire burning thru the city unchecked.

LA riots is a good example, and the california wild fires a few years
ago as well.

My wife and I are lucky enough to live on 4 acres of land...most of it wooded. We also have a 50 ft greenhouse and a similar sized garden next to it. I have an M4 rifle and tons of ammo. Eventually it all boils down to an individuals will to survive. I think this tendency or will has been "bred" out of humans over the past few generations.

I couldn't agree more.
As the days pass I am noticing that people are very weak in regards to what they would do if all that is in front of them wasn't there.
I was expecting more replies from people who weren't prepared.
Just goes to show you why I like ats I guess.

I'd say with me being in Oklahoma, and you in Florida you might want
to look for some locals there.

Knowing First Aid is good, and you can learn the rest easy enough.

Anything you want info on how to do U2U me and I will happily
provide it, I have a lot of information in electronic format, and the
essentials in hardcopy waterproofed.

The SAS survival handbook could damn near be enough, it is one
of many I have in PDF format.

First of all, I'd stay in my home, lock all the doors, set up a watch, give every adult family member a shoulder holster and sidearm to carry at all times, then listen to the radio to see how things were playing out. Most people won't get desperate until they start running out of food and water. You'll have a few "runs" on local stores, but with no one accepting US currency, they'll just be wasting their time. If they're overly insistent, they'll probably get arrested or shot for their efforts.

The violence will come to a head in about two weeks. That's when you'll need to re-assess your situation, and decide whether it's safer to continue sheltering in place or bug out.

Immediately running for the woods is a short term solution to a long term problem. You'll just end up being colder, hungrier, and a lot more exhausted than you need be. So stay put, and enjoy the comforts of home until you no longer have the luxury of doing so.

I'm assuming everyone has at least a two week supply of food and water for emergencies situations like power outages and natural disasters. If you don't, you should..

Cool thread. I would go into code red. Load all my magazines, Get all my ammo and gear prepped and ready, I would go to the nearest store and buy what ever water and food I could, provided they had any left and provided my cards still worked. Then I would go to the gun store and buy what ever ammo I could. I already have a good supply of food,water and munitions, but under a code red I would excede my over draft limit on my atm card and stock up even more. Then I would get home, catch my breath and start calling some family and friends and share information. I would then bunker down in my house and prepare to defend my family.
