Worker: I Saw Rat Roasting In Peanut Plant

www.cbsnews.com

(CBS) A former employee of the Georgia peanut plant at the center of a criminal investigation in a nationwide salmonella outbreak says he saw a rat dry-roasting in a peanut area.

Jonathan Prather was one of 50 people who lost their jobs last month when the Peanut Corporation of America shut down its plant in Blakely.

The outbreak is blamed in as many as eight deaths and has sickened some 500 people, authorities say. Many products made with peanut paste from the plant have been recalled.

Ugh...

Personally, I am not sure I even WANT to know those types of gory details.

Sounds like they were running about the same safety standards as some of the china-based plants that have been poisoning people.

Come and get your barbecued vermin-flavored peanuts folks!

There are truly some sickening (literally) environments and safety standards out there. Just makes me wonder how many slip through the cracks and don't get caught....On the other hand, I'm not sure I really want to think about that---I just lost my appetite.

Disgusting.

Ugh, I saw that.
And the fact that the company found positive samples and kept retesting until they found desirable ones?
Omg I can't even deal with it. I'm sure tons of companies do that stuff.

Well folks, I have friends who work in food processing factories, and it may be hard to hear but there are rats and mice in almost EVERY factory in America. American food companies send out tainted products all the time, they just calculate the loss against the loss of a recall, whichever is cheapest, they go with!

.....And this is why I'm paranoid about everything I eat. You just don't know, when other people are handling your food, that they aren't letting things like this slip.

E-Coli recalls, Lysteria re-calls... oh man. One more thing for me to add to my list of things to avoid.
