I was looking around on Google Earth and found what looks like a square patch of desert with bases on it. Below are the Google Earth coordinates. Does anyone know what this is?

Lat: 75° 6'36.60"S
Long: 123°19'31.81"E

I see an off coloured 'tile' from the coordinates you've provided, I don't see any bases, nor any relevance to Aliens or UFO's

Here is what a real antarctic base looks like:
66° 17′ 0″ S, 110° 32′ 0″ E

If you look at the bottom of this page in the boxes, it has the coordinates for an outpost that are really close to those you gave
sole-terra.aquila.infn.it...

Thanks for the information! The color difference (desert look vs blue/grey landscape) is what made me question what it was. I had not noticed it before.

yeah, the off color is odd, and i can only see it at far out or far in zoom(i probably should download google earth, and stop using google maps for stuff like this)

If you zoom in on the colored tile you can see more detail.

I did

No visible bases.

i say visible because g raj's link show coordinates to a spot in that off colour area, maybe it wasn't there when the satellite picture was taken.

It's not just a an off colored tile. There is a lot more detail when you zoom in. It looks like a landing strip for planes.

HI - these ` misplaced tiles ` occur all the time - all over the world

here is my report of one - which luckily occured in an area close to where i live - that i know very well

they are gust glitches in the tiling system - NOT a conspiracy

lastly they only generally occur at a single ` altitude band ` - ie you can generally zoom above / below the glitch to see the true tile - all be it at a different resolution

There is a base at those cords, Base Franco-Italienne CONCORDIA.

If you look to the left of the coordinates with your 3d building setting on you will also see a patch of blue and red dots. If you zoom in it clearly shows barrel shaped objects that appear to be bunkers so there is some sort of base definately there. It looks military! but why?

Do you honestly believe that google earth would get satellite images straight from the satellites without them being checked first for any 'anomalies' that could raise questions? Don't think so.

What mortje said is right.

Also, why is the in the Aliens & UFOs forum. It could be a research compound or anything, doesn't mean is a grey alien base.

If Google Earth get a speck of dust on an image, do you think they're going to do another flyover for the sole purposes of keeping a few paranoid people calm/happy?

The last thing they're thinking of is that some person is going to equate a teeny weenie speck of dust to an alien base, bogey man or whatever.

I see a discolored tile but that's about it. And you are correct it is a desert. All of Antarctica is technically a desert.

Try these coordinates, they are closer to what I'm talking about. It's a zoomed in view. If you don't have Google Earth I've included an ImageShack link in a post above.
