Protesters rally against World Economic Forum

news.yahoo.com

GENEVA, Switzerland (Reuters) – Hundreds of people rallied in Geneva and Davos on Saturday to protest against the World Economic Forum, saying the elite gathered for its annual meeting are not qualified to fix the world's problems.
Carrying banners reading 'You are the Crisis' and throwing snowballs, several hundred protesters marched to fences surrounding the heavily guarded Hotel Seehof in the Davos ski resort, where many world leaders and business people stay during the forum.
Protester Alex Heideger, a member of the Davos Green Party, said these were the people to blame for the economic mess.
"It's the same people who came last year and said the world economic situation is fine, and now we're in a financial crisis. Now it's the taxpayer who has to solve the whole problem.
"It's people like you and me who have to pay for it with their tax money," he said.
In Geneva, where the WEF has its headquarters, police in riot gear fired tear gas and water canon to disperse a crowd that had gathered in a square near the train station, sending people running in all directions.

I hope that things like this continue to happen. I only wish there were more people there protesting. As things continue to get worse, I think it will.

It's amazing to see all of the protests going on.
No one seems to be protesting here...at least it's not televised.

Where o' where is the world headed?

Damn, another thought just dawned on me.... Hope everyone has stockpiled enough food and 'supplies'.

Every day another HUGE jump closer to the big fight. That of warding off neighbors from eating your kids and pets, and of course survival in general.

Heirloom seeds. Non-Monsanto-GM crap.
Ebay is your friend. Get ready now!

We should all be protesting at the mere fact they continue to have all of these meetings in such luxurious surroundings.
And yet they criticize the bankers for paying out bonuses.
I wonder what all these elite are being paid to sit in luxury resorts while they decide our future without us?

Every day makes me more and more angry about what these tossers are doing.

I hope at least one group is working on planning a global protest, I'll be there.

When the protests and rioting comes to each of our respective areas.... I hope we will all be there.

In the other thread, a French dude said "In US, people are afraid of the gouvernment, in France, the gouvernment is afraid of the people"

I love it !!

I think we have every reason at this point to believe that it's coming. Like it or not, we will see 'change' alright.

What protesters should do is organize and hire their OWN police in riot gear to counter the police in riot gear which the elites get to have at their disposal. I'd like to see how that tips the scale in the protesters' favor. Of course, the law is always in the hands of the lawmakers, who are always in the hands of the movers and the shakers, who are always the bankers and the liberty takers.... and not to mention liars and fakers!

Just goes to show you...you push people down long enough, eventually their gonna get back up, pissed off.

Everyone should be protesting...look at wall street- we gave them 700+ billion dollars of our tax money and they wanted to spend it on a new private jet and their bonuses. Give me a break...the only financial crisis here is that we're paying off criminals and digging ourselves into a larger hole.

Its about time the world stood up. I hope America soon gets these protests.

The problem is that the protesters have no f$%#@ idea what is going all about. They are protesting because it is their hobby, or because they are partially paid by some lobbies to protest, it is although opportunity for some extremist politics to broadcast themselves. All this is totally corrupted, with no ideology just immature anarchy. This people in normal condition would probably start fighting with themselves if there was no their common imagined enemy. They just don’t represent any major philosophy which could be alternative to our present philosophies which are obligatory.

If that people are not ready for real revolution with sloping blood I would advise them to go home or to their favorite Mc Donald’s , watch tv drink some soda and take rest because they are wasting their time.

Although your post was a tad obnoxious and contained no real facts, just stereotypical assumptions, I only hope that one day you may thank these people, because these people are at least doing something. You are deluded to believe that such groups have no organisation or order and to say they have no philosophies is a trifle presumptious.

odyseusz -- I disagree with you, people in America are only now realizing in large numbers that we DO have a common enemy. The 'government' that we vote to represent 'US', and then pay them to do so. The way we have been represented to the rest of the world, and at the cost to us that we have seen... People are finally getting pissed. Simply casting your vote every 4 years has accomplished NOTHING.

spliff4020 -- The first protest I ever saw really amazed me on so many levels. I was working at the time, in Downtown Portland... looking out the window at all the people shouting and bashing pots and pans... Wanted nothing more than to join in, even having no idea what it was all about. LOL Shoulda known the time might come again.

SERIOUSLY I think we have lost the freedom that many of our family members lost their lives for, thinking they were preserving said freedom for future generations. What a crock. To let our freedoms be stripped from us after our own families lost their lives... Shows nothing but blatant lack of respect.

EDIT: Typo

How long will it take for people in the US to start doing this?
That's what is a bit crazy about the whole thing. We seem to be taking all the blame, yet nothing is happening here.

I'd love to see protests here. We need it! Unfortunately protests seem to be the only things that scare governments into doing the right thing...or continue in the wrong path.

Once this starts to happen, I think then we will finally see where are our government's best intentions are.

Must really suck to be complacent.

I actually have a lot of respect for protesters but that respect is based on what they are protesting for/about at the time.

I protested in Sydney (Australia) at the APEC summit in 2007 and there were people from all walks of life, all ages and cultural backgrounds. There was also a Neo-Nazi group there and the organisers asked us not to
engage them in any way as they were not part of why we were there.

The point was that the protest was to be peaceful and it was. It was total overkill with the police presence and it was great to see such a cross section of Australian society banding together to send a message to the Australian governments and the war criminals who were guests at Australian tax payers expense.

I was immensely proud to be an Australian that day. I was 50 at the time and my husband came with me because he was afraid that the police would cause trouble and I was undergoing chemo at the time.

People are such a powerful force when they band together for the common good and contrary to what you said about "not representing any major philosophy", people living in a democracy have the right to free speech. I see you live in Poland, is free speech not allowed there and hence your backward opinion of protesters?

You generalise and stereotype when you mention that protesters should go home and eat McDonalds and have a soda
that is on par with all protesters being unwashed, canvas bag carrying, dope smoking, sandal clad hippies.

I guess we can't count on you when TSHTF
